The true story was that in 1608 the colonizers were starving after running out of food and supplied for their men, and instead of negotiating a fair trade John Smith ordered his men to attack the villages and take whatever they could.
He also would set fires and demanded the villages to listen to whatever he said or he'd most likely kill them. But since the colonists were outmatched by the Powhatan people a lot of them died or were taken as prisoners, John Smith was captured and him being the strong man he is Smith begged the Chief for HIS life, not caring about any of the other men that died or were captured like him, but suprisingly Chief Powhatan sparred his life without "Pocahontas being involved at all, like last time".
Later on John Smith would see Pocahontas running around and playing with her friends, storing that as a mental note for later on.
