One thing you can always be guaranteed of from a man is embarrassment. I would add Disappointment but then that's just a human thing.
" what's wrong?" my mom asked, looking away from the road.
I realized that I had been sighing and shaking my head whilst replaying the last conversation I had with Quinton in my mind.
" Nori?" she asked me again.
I was trying to piece my thoughts together and come up with something else. Since she is tired of listening to my boy troubles and told me she's done trying to keep up with my love life so that door is closed.
"I'm nervous about seeing your niece after we fought last time." I said, it wasn't a lie. I mean my cousin Neo and I had a really bad argument that got a little physical 2 weeks ago and haven't spoken since.
"oh sweetie you guys fight all the time. It's normal for sisters
." she said as we drove into her street and my nerves actually started getting to me.
Bad things were said.
" come on. You're sisters and just like me and my sister you guys will fight and make up and repeat. I chased my sister out of the house with a knife once and we're okay today " she said chuckling to herself as we parked outside their house...
Things were about to get really awkward.
" Can we just drop off the dresses and leave?" I asked my mom and she gave me her signature" don't play with me " look and I sighed for the last time before dragging myself out of her new charcoal Toyota Fortuner.
This visit was more about her parading her new car to her older sister than it was about dropping off the dresses she had finally finished altering for them for my brother's wedding in a month.
We entered the house and I Hugged my aunt and greeted her hello along with my uncle. Her boo of 4 years. They were so cute together, looking like little love-struck teenagers.
" hello auntie." I said greeting her with a hug, leaving a kiss on her cheek. She was cooking something and it smelled good.
" hey uncle J. I said, waving to him as I peeked into the living room. He barely responded when we were watching one of his matches so my greeting didn't matter.
The upside was that Neo was nowhere in sight so chances of her being home were super low and that was good news for me.
I went back into the kitchen where my aunt and mom were fussing over the dresses.
"Nori keep stirring there for me." my aunt instructed and I did as tell.
Which ended up with me being the one making lunch and them having a mini fashion show. I didn't mind it though. I love being in the kitchen and since our kitchen was being remodelled, this is my second favourite kitchen.
Quinton's kitchen is my first.
"Ma." Neo yelled entering the kitchen and making her way to us in the living room.
We stared at each other as she entered the room and stood at the doorway for some reason.
" back already?" her mother asked her, referring to her hair appointment.
" yeah. She was quick this time." she said walking towards the couch my mom and aunt were seated on. She Hugged my mom in greeting and her mom assessed her braids.
" it looks nice. '' her mother said. She didn't like it. I don't blame her. I mean Neo could get away with too much cause she's so light but she stuck to boring and outdated styles. Her fashion sense was the same. She looked great still but she could do so much better.
