EARTH-F RICK
Ricardo "Rick Evans" was a working class kid in downtown Future City, New Jersey - born in the year 2109.
Growing up with just his father, the foreman in an industrial robo plant, young Rick was a natural engineer whose skills earned him a scholarship to the Space Flight program at Future City U, where he discovered a knack for piloting, and met his best friend, Simon 'Stringbean' Ubenge.
At the age of fifteen, Rick's father was killed in a tragic accident at the plant, and the owner, whose life Antonio Evans had saved many years before, during the moon action of 2095, arranged for a huge compensation insurance package.
Now independently rich, Future City law provided a stipend for Rick until his sixteenth birthday. During this time he planned on a life as a privately financed space explorer and persuaded Simon and a fellow classmate, Astra to join him.
At age fifteen, Astra Lindquist's genius level IQ had already earned her multiple doctorates, and she was studying several more disciplines in her quest to earn the title of professor. In 2024 she was studying Xeno-biology and the history and archaeology of alien races. As a side class she enrolled into Space Flight, having already mastered theoretical physics and quantum engineering by the age of twelve.
Astra was intelligent enough to complete her studies by remote etho-link, and was passionate about physical space exploration. That and the way Rick made her feel, whenever he looked at her, made her agree to join his crew.
On Rick Evan's sixteenth birthday he purchased a small state of the art rocket ship and the trio blasted off.
Over the next few years they came to galactic fame with many daring exploits, and Astra's discoveries alone advanced human science by a considerable amount.
In 2026 Astra became the youngest professor ever in the history of Earth science, but a worrying technicality almost led to the deferment of her honours. Earth law stated an associate professor must be a minimum of 18 Earth years old, and a full professor must be 21. Astra was seventeen.
Thanks to the heroic teens popularity on Earth and beyond, a loophole was found. Rick, Simon and Astra were awarded civilian affiliate commissions in the American Interplanetary Force - they were allowed to operate as an independent but deputized space patrol, though Rick and his crew had to submit to infrequent training (most of which could be done onboard their ship, "The Jupiter 7" in the etho-link upload suite - some had to be done physically on Earth) and Astra was required to submit her data and findings through the AIF Sci-force.
They were also afforded the privilege of wearing personalized versions of AIF inter-stellar uniforms. Rick and Simon's hewed close to the official design, but Astra altered hers to suit her individual and non militaristic nature.
Rick and Astra's relationship also grew. They were very much in love.
Then came late 2130. During a mission to the dead planet Preonus, to unearth lost secrets of the ancient alien race, the crew of the Jupiter 7 discovered that a lesser evolved race now occupied the planet.
