HISTORY
Redford "Red" Robbins was born in 1929 - his background remains a mystery, but at some point he was living independently of any family he may have had, and acting as an adventurer in his early teens. While some have speculated Redford was a street kid, there is some evidence to suggest that he had money behind him, and was able to look after himself without sleeping rough.
Round about the first few months of 1944, when Red was only just 15 years of age, he gained the power of super speed under unrevealed circumstances - and later that year he met other teen heroes who had grouped together as THE FANTASTIC TEENS.
Initially a bit standoffish and arrogant towards the others (perhaps due to his more burly physique and independent attitude), Red refused an invitation to join the teen group, but later relented when Domino, the Fantastic Teens' leader persuaded him he would be more effective in a group and it was no shame to reply on the help of friends.
As the Fantastic Teens were also members of the the Mystery Men of America, an offer was subsequently extended to Red, who in light of this new honor decided to upgrade his civilian look to a full science hero costume, and name. After that he was known as Redbolt.
As a Mystery Man, Red had a pseudo rivalry with adult speedster, The Lynx, who often joked that Redbolt should become his kid sidekick (after his split from Blackie, the Mystery Boy, later known as the second Lone Wolf - also an occasional Fantastic Teens member).
Following the war, Redbolt continued to work with Domino for a while but ultimately relocated so he could operate as a solo hero. In October 1948 he was contacted by the diminutive heroes known as Micron Man and Micron Maid, who unbeknownst to every other ex Mystery Man were time travellers from over one hundred years in the future.
The Microns had been stuck in the 1940's but were aware of a chronal event due to happen in October of 1948 around a gathering of the Seven Soldiers of Wonder team, which included Red's friends from the Fantastic Teens, Ace, Buddy the Young Eagle, and Sparky (sidekick of the Blue Beetle).
Thinking he was going to help fellow heroes, Red speeded into the area just outside Las Vegas, with Micron Man and Micron Maid on his shoulder - they then jumped into a burst of chronal energy, but Redbolt, not knowing what was about to occur, attempted to move his friends clear of the energy wave. He had just grabbed Ace and Sparky when the chronal energy engulfed them - the Soldiers, Micron Man and Micron Maid and Redbolt were knocked into the time stream and thrown out at various points in the future.
While several of the others appeared in the 1960's to 70's, Redbolt, Ace and Sparky found themselves tumbling back into the Las Vegas desert in the year 1983.
After the three friends acclimated to their new era (with help from the science hero community), they got together with their old friends, Domino and Lionheart (both of whom had powers that dramatically slowed their aging process) to form a new iteration of The Fantastic Teens.
As the heroes were now over or approaching twenty, their updated name was The New Fantastics, later just The Fantastics.
While Sparky changed his look and name to become the Blue Scarab and Ace updated his costume, Redbolt carried on as before, as the "fastest man alive" in the 1980's.
