"So....Pie?" Huey asked as Inspector Tezuka left them at the table.
Huey was surprised that Tezuka actually did pay for their meal, he was guessing she was feeling just a tad bit guilty about how the conversation went down with them.
Honker had just gotten off the phone with a rather grim look on his face when Huey thought he'd break the ice with their newest team mate.
"Um. No thanks. I already ate." Honker told him thinking he was offering most of Violet's untouched dessert.
Honker's thoughts were clearly still in the conversation he had on the phone. It clearly made him uneasy.
"No. I mean, your agent name. It's the mathematical number for pie. I was wondering why that was?" Huey said, as he and Violet got up.
"Oh, well," Honker said, as he motioned for them to follow him out of the restaurant and out the building. Huey noticed Violet walking a bit to close to Honker and saw her hand in one swift motion to reach into Honker's back pocket where he just pocketed his phone.
Huey raised an eyebrow at her but he didn't know if Violet even noticed. She just clamped her arms behind her back and was walking as casually as she could without drawing attention to herself. Huey couldn't help but smile.
"Every time before a fight I always ask my enemy what my name means. I figured, if they don't know, then I can determine what level of stupidity they are to the point where I can determined how best to handle them." Honker explained.
"That's, actually, pretty clever." Huey remarked.
"Thanks. Don't get to be a field agent without the basics of cleverness." Honker told him.
He lead them to a limo and opened the door for them. Violet slid in first then Huey.
"By the way, you two need Agent names now if you are going to be working with us." Honker told them as he shut the door and walked towards the drivers side. He opened it and got in then started the engine. "Any ideas on what they could be?" He asked, looking into the rear view mirror.
Huey squinted his eyes at him, he had a feeling Honker was trying to distract him from something by making small talk, but whatever it was that was clearly making Honker nervous Huey had a feeling it was because of the phone call he had received just minutes ago and wondered who had called and what they wanted to rattled Honker like that. Huey guess that keeping him distracted with questions of Honker's own would keep Huey from asking.
Why, Huey didn't know, but Huey answered his last question just because he was ready for the answer and the answer was easy.
"Agent Jet for me." Huey told him.
That broke Violet into a smile.
The names Huey and his brother's were originally going to be called by their mother still held some sort of influence on Huey. He had wanted to use it in some way, for their mother. She deserved that much at least, after everything. Donald had told them early on that he had gotten so upset with Della for leaving, that he had ignored the names she had written down and named them what he wanted, telling them that if she had been here to begin with she would have had that right to name them, but she wasn't and so that honor fell on Donald.
Dewey and Louie though, of course, was angry, but Huey understood, and rather Donald told Della in private the reason he named them what he did Huey was sure that their Mom wouldn't argue with the reasoning out of sheer guilt she had put Donald through right before and after leaving.
"Nice." Honker said, as he began to pull out of the driveway and down the busy road of Tokyolk. "Every Agent name has some sort of backstory, mine for example, I've just told you. What's the story behind that name?" Honker asked.
"It was suppose to be my name, but, I got stuck with Huey instead." Huey explained.
Honker nodded, as if understanding.
"How about you, Violet? Got a name picked out?" Honker asked, as he stopped at a red light.
Violet didn't answer.
She was busy staring out the window at something. Huey quickly looked towards her and noticed what she was staring at as well and his blood ran cold.
Before Huey had time to think of a logical way to deal with what was coming Violet clamped a hand on Huey's head and pulled it roughly down just as a bullet shot at them and shattered the window to the limo. Violet ducked down level with him.
"Damn it." Honker muttered.
He quickly grabbed a gun that Huey hadn't noticed was hidden under the seat, unbuckled and jumped out and started shooting at whoever had shot at them.
"How'd he find me here?" Huey whispered to Violet.
"Must have set off some alert back at their headquarters or something. I'm sure they not only have you under the radar, but the rest of the family too..." Violet told him.
"Well, it's not like I beat him before. I can take him. Honker shouldn't have to handle Steel Beak on his own!" Huey said, getting up.
Violet pulled something out from behind her back, and handed it to Huey. It was Honker's cell phone.
Huey stared at it then looked at her.
It was meant to be a distraction for Huey so he wouldn't get involved in the fight. She could see him debating on what to do and had interrupter this back before they left the building. She couldn't let Huey get hurt. He wasn't focused, or stable enough yet to even win a fight.
"Call them." She whispered.
"But -." Huey said, and clinched the phone tightly in his hands.
Even if he did, he only had about a few seconds to explain everything and to only one person.
"It's now or never, Huey. Call them. I doubt you'll get another chance like this." Violet urged him.
"What about you? Shouldn't -." Huey began again.
Another bullet broke the window to the limo and a couple more shots were fired making Huey flinch at the loud noises.
"Don't worry about me." Violet told him. Putting her forehead to his. "Your my family at the moment, Huey. That's all I need. You on the other hand need them to know what's going on."
Huey bit his bottom bill and nodded slowly before looking back down at the phone and his fingers started to dial a number. Huey had no idea who he was calling, it was as if his mind was in one place as his fingers had a mind of their own.
But once Huey put the phone up to his ear and a voice answered on the second ring Huey suddenly felt the weight of the situation he was in hit him in one swift emotional wave that made tears swell up in his eyes and he choked out a greeting.
"Hey, Lou."
