Sakura, Sasuke, Obito and I were waiting on the training field. Obito was twenty minutes late, but our sensei had also yet to make an appearance. Sakura was trying to make conversation with everyone but I wasn't interested so I scouted the area. There didn't seem to be any traps, just a forest surrounding a clearing with three wooden posts in the center.
Three hours had passed before suddenly Naruto appeared in front of me. He was looking down on me and for some reason my face felt warmer than usual. I was sitting by a tree, a good ways away from my companions. Naruto gave me a knowing smile, he didn't close his eyes and I got to see the pools of emotion. Just as soon as the look came, it went, taking my resting heart rate with it.
"Well it'll be annoying if I have to explain the activity twice, come on, I'll get ya back to the group." Naruto-sensei said, reaching his hand out for me to take. To my surprise we shunshined behind the group a good ways away, but I could still see them.
"Now, hide your chakra, I'm gonna test your skills of stealth by helping me with this prank!" Naruto whispered.
I couldn't believe it, I was assigned an actual child as a sensei, does he seriously think I'm gonna go along with this? Well I am, he's giving me an opportunity to prove myself as a capable shinobi and I'd be even stupider not to take it.
I sat for a moment looking for sarcasm, he was serious. I slowly nodded, which was all he needed.
"So, the plan is, you'll lead em' here with a lie about ex-nin coming. I'll be waiting here for ya." He explained, I didn't know why, but I went with this plan.
I quickly put a transformation on myself to put some scratches and dirt on me before running to the other genins.
"I-it's ex-nin, they're attacking we gotta run!" I yelled, impressing even myself with my acting skills. I ran into the forest and heard three pairs of feet following me.
I ran to the spot and waited, I heard Obito whining between pants for air but I ignored him.
Suddenly there was a snap and we all turned to see a medal cylinder tied to a rope headed toward us. I couldn't believe it, in the fraction of a second, Sakura, Sasuke and I managed to dodge. Obito however was slower than us and got caught in the line of fire.
There was splatter everywhere as I was covered in...orange? I turned to see Naruto holding the paint bucket steady on the rope. The momentum sending orange paint to cover all four of us.
"A ninja must see through deception" Naruto said before another Naruto came out from the trees. "For all you know, Kakashi could have been an ex-nin under a transformation. He didn't say a word that would imply that it was him." The second Naruto explained. A third Naruto was suddenly behind our group. "Kakashi's actually quite bad at acting like Kakashi." We all whipped our heads around to look at the third Naruto, he had a wicked smirk on his face. "Kakashi, tell me, if there was actually a group of ex-nin, would you not engage the enemy right away? If they were too much for you in a real situation you'd keep fighting until you couldn't anymore. You would never warn your teammates because you think you're better than them.
On tests you're on par with Sasuke, but you're a bit like Obito. I saw you reach to save him, but you weren't fast enough. Like Obito, you hate the idea of death and would never leave a comrade behind in a real situation or put a comrade in the line of fire in your place. You're very loyal." The third Naruto said, leaning down on me again. I knew I was short but Naruto was the same height as Obito, so I didn't like him teasing me and making my face warm.
"So that was the test?" Sakura questioned. Naruto cackled maniacally. "No, I was just bored of waiting for you guys to find me in the trees so I pulled a prank."
"Wait so you were here the whole time?!" Obito whined.
"Yeah, Kakashi was the only one who thought to scout the area, but he couldn't find me either." Naruto explained like he was hiding from toddlers.
"Now the real test begins!" Naruto shouted, smirking.
