Chapter Seven: C rank

Once the team had made it into the hokage tower, the genin were about to enter formally when Naruto simply burst through the door.

"Heya Baa-chan!" He said loudly and without manners, making everyone in the room cringe.

The blonde haired woman growled and punched her desk, making a sizely dent that made the genin pale. "Brat! Don't address me with such disrespect in front of your genin!" She scolded. Naruto just waved her off.

"So, any new missions?" He asked, going to push his genin forward. "These kids are loving the chores." He said, egging the other children on to say something.

It was Sasuke who spoke up first, interrupting his cousin who was about to do the same. "I'm an Uchiha elite! I can't be wasting my time doing stupid chores, I'm a ninja!" He yelled, sounding suspiciously like a whine.

"I second that. Although I understand the importance of D ranks, I feel we are ready for a higher class." Kakashi said emotionlessly.

Naruto shrugged. "Obito, Sakura, what do you two think?"

"Well, I would like to try doing a real mission, plus I should be there if you get hurt." Sakura said, looking prouder than she did a few weeks ago.

Obito smiled and nodded. "Well, I can't be hokage if I'm stuck doing chores!" He chirped.

"Well, you heard em' baa-chan, how about a C rank?" Naruto proposed. Tsunade heaved a sigh before moving to a file on her desk.

"How about a c-rank escort mission to the land of waves?" She said finally. Naruto quickly nodded and a drunk old man barged in.

"These are the kids that're s'ppost ta protect me?" He slurred, wobbling a little on his feet and reeling of alcohol. "They look like a bunch of wimps! Specially' that blonde brat."he commented.

"Hey! That's our sensei, he's a jonin and can kick your ass any day!" Obito spoke up, using confidence he didn't know he had. Naruto got a small twinkle in his eye and light blush on his cheeks before gently nudging Obito, signaling to drop it. Obito looked a little disappointed but dropped it either way.

"I can assure you my team is more than capable of protecting you." The blonde said formally before telling his genin to pack their stuff for a few day's trip.

They all complied and quickly went to their houses.

Naruto packed quickly and then headed over to the Uchiha compound. He reach a window of an old branch house, the streets were ominously empty but that was to be expected. The blonde didn't falter and leapt to a window. Inside the window was a frantically packing Obito, and said genin's sensei knocked on the window.

Obito's eyes went wide at the surprise visit before opening the window. "S-Sensei?" He squeaked, blushing a little at the intrusion.

Naruto looked around a little. "Wow, this place is super empty, almost makes me glad of how tiny my apartment is." He said bluntly, making Obito look down at the floor sadly.

"Thanks." Naruto said, his tone going from it's usual brash to very gentle and meaningful. Obito's gaze shot up to look at his sensei, who's big blue eyes shone with gratefulness. "I liked your confidence, and I appreciated you standing up for me." He said, before closing his eyes and going back to normal, "But use that confidence on yourself, ne?" He said before crouching and turning to leave back out the window.

Naruto wasn't facing his student when he spoke. "But be careful when you say stuff like that, my existence pisses off a lot of the wrong people, try to protect me to much and you'll get killed." He said in a serious tone before jumping away faster than Obito could process.
