A/N: warning! brief moment of homophobia.

Miles lets them inside, wishing in his head that they hadn't come at all. His father puts his uneaten dinner in the fridge, then starts to clean the kitchen.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were going to the dance?" Miles asked his friends.

"We wanted to check up on ya, of course." Larry replied.

"Miles, you've got us really worried about you." Phoenix added.

"I'm sorry." Miles replied, frowning guiltily.

"Did we do something to make you mad at us?" Phoenix asked him.

"What!? N-no!" Miles frantically answered.

"Then why have you been avoiding us?" Larry asked.

Feeling overwhelmed, Miles clams up, wrapping his arms around himself. He hangs his head in shame, tears spilling out of his eyes. Gregory was about to go comfort his crying son, but Phoenix beats him to it.

"Come on, Miles, we're your friends. You can open up to us." Phoenix said, hugging Miles.

"But...I'm afraid you'll stop being my friend if you knew I...." Miles wept, trembling with anxiety.

"If you knew I was gay." he finally blurted.

In response, Phoenix only hugs Miles tighter.

"Miles, you dum-dum, why would I stop being your friend because of that?" Phoenix chuckled.

"Y-you don't think I'm weird?" Miles asked, pulling out of Phoenix's hug.

"Of course not!" Phoenix replied firmly.

"What kind of jerks would we be if we thought you being gay was weird?" Larry agreed.

Being accepted by his friends made Miles very happy. A smile forms on his face as he wipes the tears off his face with his sleeve.

"But it is weird." Phoenix's date said.

"And gross." Larry's date added with a sneer.

If looks could kill, the anger on Phoenix's and Larry's faces would've obliterated those girls.

"How dare you call our friend gross!" Phoenix shouted at them.

"You homophobic cows can forget about us being your date to the dance tonight, cuz we ain't taking ya!" Larry said angrily.

The two girls gasp, offended by being called cows.

"Do you seriously expect us to go to the dance without dates!?" Phoenix's date asked, hands on her hips.

"Yes." both Phoenix and Larry replied.

"Don't you know the guy code? Bros before h..." Larry tells the girls.

"Lawrence!" Gregory interrupted.

"Uh, I mean, pals before gals!" Larry said, amending what he was going to say.

"Uhg, you know what! Whatever! We don't wanna spend the evening with a bunch of f*gs anyway!" Larry's date huffed, stomping her foot.

"Alright, that's enough! You, young ladies, get out of my house! I won't accept such derogatory language under my roof, especially when it's directed at my son!" Gregory said, losing his patience.

When Larry's and Phoenix's ex-dates left, Miles thanked his friends for defending him. Then, Gregory told the boys he was going to the store to get things to make ice cream sundaes.

"Mr. Greg, can we spend the night?" Phoenix asked excitedly.

"It's fine with me, but you should ask your parents as well. The phone's over there." Gregory said pointing to the landline by the couch.

After Mile's father has gone, Larry and Phoenix rush to the phone to call their parents. While they were doing that, Miles went to the bathroom to splash water on his face. His eyes were a little puffy from crying.

"Miles, our parents said we could stay!" Phoenix told him once he came back into the living room.

"That's wonderful." Miles smiled.

"Imma order a pizza!" Larry declared, dialing the number for the local pizza place.

"Shouldn't we ask for permission from my father first?" Miles protested.

"Don't worry, I'll pay for it with the money my dad gave me for doing all the laundry in the house. Besides, pizza and ice cream sundaes kinda go hand-in-hand." Larry replied, waving his hand dismissively, putting the phone to his ear.

Phoenix and Miles sat on the couch as Larry ordered the pizza.

"Are you okay, Miles?" Phoenix asked.

"Yeah, but....it did hurt to hear those girls call me a....that word." Miles sighed.

"I'm sorry that happened. You didn't deserve that." Phoenix said.

An awkward silence suddenly filled the air between the teen boys.

"So....what made you realize that you were gay?" Phoenix stammered shyly, blushing.

"Well...it was more like...a 'who'." Miles replied, also blushing.

Another awkward silence.

"Then, you have a crush on someone?" Phoenix questioned, continuing to look away as he blushed.

"Mhm." Miles nodded.

And another painfully awkward silence.

"Oh my goooooooooood, just f**king kiss already!" Larry groaned, leaning over the backrest of the couch.

This startles Phoenix and Miles, making them almost fall off the couch.

"What the h*ll, Larry!?" Phoenix snapped at him.

"Sorry, I just couldn't take any more of this tension you two have." Larry whined dramatically.

"Do you or do you not like each other!? Just spit it out!" he asked his friends.

Phoenix and Miles blush even harder, fidgeting nervously in their seats.

"I like you....wait, you like me!?" Phoenix and Miles said at the same time.

"But...if you liked me, then...why were you going to the dance with her?" Miles asked Phoenix.

"Because I wasn't sure if you liked me back." Phoenix answered.

"Well, I do." Miles mumbled, looking down at his lap.

Miles feels Phoenix scoot closer and grasp his hand. He looks into his eyes and smiles, then leans in and presses a quick kiss to his lips.

"Awww." Larry giggled, resting his chin in his hands.

"Larry...there's some soda in the fridge. How about you go into the kitchen and get you one." Miles told him through gritted teeth.

"Okay." Larry shrugged, leaving the living room.

Once Larry was gone, Miles grabs Phoenix's tie and pulls him into another kiss, this one lasting longer. While he did wish he had the courage to ask Phoenix to the dance a few days ago, spending the night watching movies and eating pizza and sundaes were much more fun. There's always next year, anyway.

A/N: please ignore the fact that this took me three years to update.😅
