Chapter 8

Y/N POV- London

I sat down in the first row, next to Sam, of the church. A Choir of young children were singing. My eyes were red and puffy from crying. I watched as my dad and five other pallbearers carried a coffin draped with the Union Jack. 

Priest:"And now, I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words" Agent 13, my dad's "neighbor" when he lived in DC (you lived with Tony and Pepper in the tower when Steve was in dc) stepped up to the podium. Steve sat down next to Sam looking down, not seeing Sharon walk up. Sam nudges Steve to look up and he see her standing there. She glances at Steve and takes a breath.

Sharon:"Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of SHIELD . . . but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy" Me and my dad finally realized who she was and he took a surprised breath. "She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related" She looked at Steve and me. "I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. And she said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move . . . it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in they eye and say No, you move"

She finished her speech and everyone left the church.

Steve and I were standing alone in the isle not speaking when Nat came up to us.

Steve:"When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out that she was alive. I was just lucky to have her" I looked up to see her dressed in black.

Nat:"She had you back, too"

Y/N:"Who else signed?" I asked 

Nat:"Tony, Rhodey, Vision"

Y/N:"Clint?"

Nat:"Says he's retired"

Steve:"Wanda?"

Nat:"TBH. I'm off to Vienna for the signing of the accords. There's plenty of room on the jet" Steve sighed and bowed his head. "Just because it's the path of least resistance doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together" Nat seemed weird to me, almost like she didn't want to sign the accords.

Steve:"What are we giving up to do it?" Nat sighed. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it"

Nat:"I know"

Steve:"Then what are you doing here?"

Nat:"I didn't want you two to be alone" She pulled us both into a hug. "Come here"

We were in a hotel room Steve was who knows where and Sam was laying on his bed so we decided to watch the signing of the accords. 

T'Chaka:"When stolen Wakandan vibranium was used to make a terrible weapon, we in Wakanda were forced to question our legacy. Those men and women killed in Nigeria, were part of a goodwill mission from a country too long in the shadows. We will not, however, let misfortune drive us back. We will fight to improve the world we wish to join. I am grateful to the Avengers for supporting this initiative. Wakanda is proud to extend its hand in peace" I saw what looked to be his son run toward him and scream.

T'Challa:" EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" soon after a bomb went off and the cameras shut off.

Y/N:"Sam!"

Sam:"We should go find Steve" moments after a picture came up and a voice saying that James Buchanan Barnes was responsible for the bombing. 

Y/N:"Sh*t"

Sam:"Let's go find your dad"

Sam and I walk out of a elevator to see him standing there with Sharon, who is on the phone.

Y/N:"Dad. There's something you gotta see"

News anchor:"A bomb hidden in a news van..."

Sharon:"Who's coordinating?"

News anchor:"...ripped through the UN building in Vienna"

Sharon:"Good. They're solid. Forensics?"

News anchor:"More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier. The infamous HYDRA agent, linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations" Sharon hangs up on whoever was on the phone.

Sharon:"I have to go to work" Sam, Steve and I walk into the elevator.

Steve:"So Y/N. How do you know bucky?"

Y/N:"Ok so umm when ultron was being a pain in your a**, me and Sam were searching for Bucky. And uhh well we found him. He was being hunted down because, well he has killed many people, so I helped him hide until it was all figured out. We became really good friends. I know that isn't him dad, he doesn't kill people anymore"

Steve:"Ok"

My dad and I are standing in the street with sunglasses and a baseball cap as our disguise. Steve and I call Nat.

Nat:"Yeah?" She says over the phone

Steve:"You alright?"

Nat:"Ah, yeah, thanks. I got lucky. I know how much Barnes means to you two. I really do. Stay home. You'll only make this worse. For all of us. Please 

Y/N:"Are you saying you'll arrest us?"

Nat:"No. Someone will. If you interfere. That's how it works now"

Steve:" If he's this far gone, Nat, we should be the ones to bring him in"

Nat:"Why?"

Y/N:" Because we're the ones least likely to die trying" Steve and I ended the call. We walked towards a coffee shop and sat close to Sam, who is also in a cap and glasses.

Sam:"She tell you to stay out of it? Might have a point"

Steve:"He'd do it for me"

Sam:"1945, maybe. I just want to make sure we considered all our options. The people that shoot at you usually wind up shooting at me" Sharon walks up and stands next to Steve.

Sharon:"Tips have been pouring in since that footage went public. Everybody thinks the Winter soldier goes to their gym. Most of it's noise. Except for this" She slid Steve a file. "My boss expects a briefing, pretty much now . . . so that's all the head start you're gonna get"

Y/N:"Thank you"

Sharon:"And you're gonna have to hurry. We have orders to shoot on sight"
