Gracelyn grew up in Hawkins. She had a normal life. She always enjoyed reading and drawing. Grace did think her life would be any different than normal. She had her friends and had plans to go to college eventually. Her life change when her parents died. It was ice-y. She was in the backseat of the car. Her parents were in the front of the car, and they were driving home after a Christmas party. Their car lost control and slid off a bridge into the water. She was the only one to make it out. Her mother had more than likely passed away from the impact, but her dad got Gracelyn out of the car. He went back in for Grace's mom, but he never got out. He drowned. Sheriff Jim Hopper took her in after that, which shocked everyone. He legally adopted her. Gracie's life changed, and she is just now trying to get back to normal. Gracie was quiet now. She was not herself, and always was seen reading. She ended up friending Jonathan after that. Gracie does know all about the upside-down. Her interest has lately been on a new guy that moved into town.
