If Lily and James were alive to raise Harry, you can bet your left shoe's sole that he would have entered his name into the goblet of fire.
I would imagine that Sunday afternoons were filled with mini wizard tournaments and games. They would try to make the consequences for failing a task seem so magical, that even failing would be fun.
Harry would listen to Dumbledore's warning with a pinch of salt, then find a way to enter his name. He would also help the twins in entering. And when Dumbledore *calmly* asks if they entered the names, they'd admit without hesitation. Snape would scold them, while McGonagall and Dumbledore try not to have a stroke.
Hell, Harry might have won each of the challenges by using muggle methods. Dragon? Use catnip. Friends stuck at the bottom of the lake? Scuba gear. Rumours that the Dark Lord is alive and kicking? Carry a pistol.
