Zayn's POV

Everybody is a suspect now and I am waiting anxious for their attack. I hate leaving the boys anywhere alone. I check on them all periodically during the night to make sure they are ok, still there and breathing. I hate leaving them with even Lou, Josh or any of the friends we have made in security. For now days almost anybody can be bought and it has left me paranoid.

We are now a month into our tour, we are on the last show in Japan. We are all hanging out in Harry's room watching TV, waiting for Paul to come in and tell us it's time to get going. 

The boys joke and chat but I can't join in, my heart isn't there and neither is my mind. For I am too busy worrying about them all and what is to happen next. I can not let a single hair be harmed on any of their heads, not now. They all have already been through far too much and seeing them going through anymore, especially Liam, would just break me.

I glance around the room taking in all of their smiling, carefree faces, a feeling none of them have felt for far too long. Niall still has light in his eyes, his blue eyes almost seeming to glow with innocence, but that caution is still there, that fear of getting too happy to have it only fall apart around him again. Louis is laughing and joking like usual, being his typical cheeky self, but when he looks at all the other lads you can see the protectiveness in his eyes. His need to protect our younger members clear in his eyes and his actions. He is always hovering near them, and staying in one of their rooms each night instead of his own. Liam is smiling a real smile for the first time in ages. Even as he does it never really meets his eyes, for in those big brown puppy eyes the insecuity and fear is still there. He is now more cautious and has fallen back into being Daddy Direction only now it's almost like he's a broken version of Daddy Direction. 

Liam has always tried to reassure himself and everybody that he is ok, but I see through his facade, at night when I come in to check on him he is having nightmares the blankets tangling around his flaying legs and his whispered words of fear in his sleep haunt my own nightmares at night. Louis knows about the nightmares he has just as well as me, the only difference is that Louis will be the one that wakes and comforts him if he should be in Liam's room that night. 

Looking at Liam now, I can never look at him the same, not after knowing what I know now about him. I know things about Liam that even he does not. I know why they are targeting our now so frail friend and what they want from him makes me feel sick. I will not let them have it even if I have to give my own life to make sure they never lay another hand on Liam. 

The door suddenly opens making me tense in my seat ready for a fight, but it is only Paul.

"Time to go boys, last night in Japan before we head off to Singapore," Paul tells us giving them a smile and meeting eyes with me, silently asking me if they are all ok. All I can do is give him a nod of the head before slipping out the door with the rest of the boys.

Louis hangs back to walk with me down the hotel halls to the car that is surely waiting for us outside.

"Was he ok last night?" I ask him knowing that he will know exactly who I am talking about.

"Yeah, he woke up in a panic, took me a little while to calm him down but not as bad as it has been in the past. He is getting better. He did complain to me about a headache earlier on today, which concerns me, but he said he's going to go to Dr. Lance should it get any worse. He's going to be ok, Zayn," Louis tells me in a mumble under his breath so the other boys do not over hear. Louis does not know what I do or everything that is going on, but he is protective of those boys with him being the oldest. He is doing something I can not do, he is there with them all almost every night, comforting them, laughing with them and just being that hand that they all need right now.
