The girls soon arrived at the last place they expected to come to. The girls both took a deep breath as the slowly came up to the door.
"I don't know about this" Jessie said nervously.
"Come on now, Jessie" Kali looked to her friend. "We do owe her an apology after all... And much more"
Jessie sighed again, looking down then Kali knocked on the front door. The door was slowly opened by the ill-mannered no-good elderly lady herself... Mrs. McFarland.
"What do you want?" The elderly lady glowered down at the two girls.
"We came here to apologize for trespassing" Kali said before nudging Jessie a little who was still shy.
"And for, messing up you flowers" Jessie then said to Mrs. McFarland.
"Well, I should think so" She glowered at the two girls. "This isn't the first time you hooligans have torn up my property! You should see my creeping bent in the summer, what they do"
"I know. I know!" Jessie hung her head, feeling ashamed before looking at McFarland again. "Anyway, ma'am, we're really sorry"
"Don't do it again, or I'll be forced to notify the juvenile authorities" Mrs. McFarland scolded. "I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy a month or two in reform school"
"No, ma'am" Jessie shook her head, looking down again.
Mrs. McFarland gave the girls a cold stare before she was about to close the door, but Kali stopped her.
"Wait!" The adventure girl said. "While we're here, ma'am, we're raising money for a good cause. And, we're willing to do chores for you for half price"
"Raising money?" Mrs. McFarland raised an eyebrow at the girls, now curious. "For what cause?"
Kali and Jessie glanced at each other and thought for a moment. They didn't think they would get this far. Jessie soon thought of something...
"An animal shelter" She replied.
Mrs. McFarland now looked interested. "What kind of chores? And how much?" She asked them.
"We'll clean any room in your house top to bottom for 5 dollars" Jessie said.
Mrs. McFarland gazed at the girls for a few moments, asking them.
"Any room?..."
The girls were soon brought into Mrs. McFarland's house, up to one room that seemed to have be forgotten from the rest of the house, filled with all kinds of boxes and other stuff covered with dust. It looked like no one had been in there for years.
"Been meaning to fix this up for quite a while now" Mrs. McFarland mentioned, referring to the dusty old room.
The girls looked around seeing how much junk had to be removed.
"This looks like a 10 dollar job" Jessie commented.
"Jess!" Kali quickly rebuked her friend slightly, reminding her they had an agreement.
"You said any room for 5 dollars" Mrs. McFarland even reminded Jessie while giving her a bit of a scowling look.
Mrs. McFarland showed the girls where everything needed to go and they got straight to work. There was a lot of cleaning and dusting that was very tiring, but it all payed off and the girls were soon finished with the room. They were taking up the last few boxes upstairs to the attic when they noticed some boxes of Xmas lights in the corner of the room, just sitting there collecting dust and spider webs.
