Chapter 5-
After we created the pack something between Joey and I suddenly changed.
Now not only do I feel what I’m feeling, but I can feel everything that he feels too. And that’s not the only thing; we can also communicate in our mind. We found the last one out when Joey stubbed his toe on the corner of his desk. The amount of words that ran through his mind would give his mother a heart attack.
I quickly have a shower and get changed into some of Joey’s clothes before going down to have something to eat while he showers.
Make me something! He whines through my mind.
I pull out some leftover meat and put it in the microwave. By the time Joey’s done I have the meat on a plate for each of us. He scoffs it in without even saying word and once again I find myself waiting to eat.
Why is that? The thought of eating before he’s even finished makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Finally he finishes and I eat the rest of the meat left on the plate. “Now all we have to do is find out what you are and we can die in peace.” Joey says, leaning back in his chair, feet atop the table.
The thought of pushing him off is strong but I don’t go along with it and that saddens me. Two days ago I would have, so why am I suddenly unwilling?
Because hurting him would hurt you.
I jump a mile in the air and Joey goes tumbling from the chair in shock. “What happened?!”
“Did you just talk to me?” I ask him as he stands up and shakes himself off.
“No, what are you talking about?” Joey asks with a scared look in his eyes. He’s obviously feeling my fear along with his. I know I am at least.
“Someone was talking to me.”
“What did they say?”
“Who cares what they said?! All that matters is that a stranger is in my head talking to me!” I scream at him.
I’m not a stranger.
“Did you hear that?” I ask.
Joey shakes his head, “Try talking back.”
I nod my head and swallow my fear,
Who are you?
“Evan, that was to me.” He says, studying me like a scientist would an alien.
“Sorry.”
This time I close my eyes and concentrate.
‘Who are you?’
I’m your wolf.
‘My wolf? I can talk to you?’
Well duh, what do you think you’re doing right now?
‘No need to get your boxers in a bunch.’
I hear him huff and suddenly a thought comes to mind, ‘Do you know what wolf you are?’
I have no more of an idea than you; this is all new to me too.
“Earth to Evan, Evan; come in!” Joey says, waving a hand in front of my face.
“Yeah I’m here.” I reply after I shake off the shock.
“So…”
My eyebrows crease, “‘So…’ what?”
