Chapter 7-

Brandon didn’t change for another hour and when he did finally change he took one look in the mirror at the chestnut coloured wolf and fainted. We’d already wasted enough time and before long the police are bound to be here.

Just as I’m thinking that I hear police sirens coming from down the road. Joey and I share a fearful look.

“Quickly, get these cuffs off of me,” I say. Dee and Joey don’t waste a moment before grabbing the cuff on my right wrist and pulling opposite ways, it snaps open and they quickly move to the next one.

“Evan, order Brandon to change.” Dee says, once they’re both off. “We have to leave now and it’s easier if he’s human.”

“He’s unconscious though.” I argue.

“That won’t matter, his wolf is still in there and he’s the one that will listen to you. Just hurry up.”

“Brandon, can you please change?” I ask as the police sirens get louder.

“Don’t ask. Order!” He says.

“Brandon. Change right now!” I growl.

I’m amazed when it actually works and Brandon lies on the ground as a human. Dee’s the first one to snap to action as he quickly puts a pair of boxers on him. There’s a knock on the front door and voices yelling and that’s enough to get Joey and I into a rush.

I grab Brandon while Joey plies the window open and Dee turns off the light. More yelling comes from downstairs and then finally there’s banging as they attempt to knock the door down.

“I better not break my leg.” Joey says as he jumps from the window and lands effortlessly on his feet. I hear him release a breath and I release one I didn’t realise I was holding.

“Here, catch Brandon.” I say to Joey as I hang the unconscious boy out the window.

“Do I have to?”

“Yes you have to.” I growl, “Just hurry up.”

“Okay pass him down.”

I release my grip on him and he falls downward. Luckily Joey catches him and saves us from explaining why he has a big lump on his head, or a broken arm.

“You’re next.” I say to Dee as he comes over.

Without a word he climbs out of the window and jumps to the ground beside Joey. I hear footsteps running up the stairs as I push myself out the window. My bedroom door bursts open and I see two officers running towards me just as I jump out.

One happens to grab a hold of my shirt but it rips through his grip. “Run.” I order Joey and Dee as I land on the ground.

Dee takes off and Joey tosses Brandon over his shoulder before following. I quickly run ahead of Dee and guide them away from the danger. A group of police chase us with flashlights and hound dogs.

“We’re not going to lose them as long as they have the dogs.” Joey says as he runs beside me.

“Why don’t we outsmart them?” Dee suggests.

I shake my head. “No, the best chance we have is to keep running, the policemen are bound to get tired before us and fall back.”

“And if they don’t?” Joey asks.

I look over to him. “Well then we scare them away.”

I pick up the pace and eventually we’ve ran so far that the trees end and we’re faced with the main road. A police car and the two police that were in my room wait on the road with their dogs. Without slowing down I run over the car and onto a small track on the other side of the road.
