9: Vs The Human Battery

Your Perspective

Okay, I'm going against Kaminari. From what I've seen, his quirk is electricity based, which may be a problem considering the fact I have trouble controlling something that flows or moves on its own, like water and surprise, surprise electricity. I sighed and made my way out of the changing room before my phone rang.

You: Hello?

FATHER: (Y/N).

You: F-Father! Um, it's nice that you're calling me for once-

FATHER: Your lackluster performance in the festival disappoints me.

You: W-Well, I-

FATHER: Shut up. if you want to inherit the mantle of our family title, then you must be at the top. Crush your competition without mercy. Do NOT fraternize with anyone. You are above them.

You: Is that necessary?

FATHER: Did I not make myself clear?

You: . . . You made yourself crystal clear father. I'm sorry.

FATHER: Good. Don't disappoint me again. Otherwise, there will be dire consequences.

I felt myself tense up as the memories of my childhood began flooding back. Shaking my head, I felt my hands getting clammy.

FATHER: I will see your progress later. Goodbye'.

You: Yeah . . . goodby-

He disconnected before I can say anything. I stared at my phone and felt my grip getting tighter on it as cracks began to form. Does nothing ever satisfy his high standards? I . . .I'm still not good enough. I let out a sigh before turning around to the surprised listener of the conversation.

You: So how much did you hear?

Kendou: I heard everything.

You: So i don't have to explain anything. Good, just pretend this never h-

Kendou wraps me in a hug, pulling me, and just stood there with me. I felt comforted and hugged her back. She pulled away and looked up at me with concerned eyes. Feeling my face flush, I looked away in embarrassment and shame.

Kendou: (L/N), if you ever need to talk, I'm here.

You: Thanks Kendou.

Kendou: Don't mention it. That's what friends do. Cmon, you have your match against Kaminari, so you should probably head off.

I felt time slow and my heart began my heart beat faster. Remembering my mom's advice, I cleared my throat and turned back to Kendou.

You: If you're not preoccupied when the festival ends, are you . . . are you free to head off somewhere? Like maybe hang out sometime?

Kendou: Are you . . . asking me out?

I quickly looked away.

You: Perhaps. It's up to you however-

Kendou: Yeah. We can go out to a cafe next we. Here.

She takes my phone and adds herself to my contacts before she smiles.

Kendou: Now go out and win for Class 1-B.

You: Will do.

I headed out into the stadium and stood across from my opponent on the battlegrounds. Kaminari seems to be a very boisterous fellow, so maybe I can exploit that. His quirk also seems to only be capable of discharging electricity, not controlling where it goes.

Kaminari: (L/N) right?

You: Yup.

Kaminari: Dude, im a huge fan of your dad! He's so cool using his quirk to just freeze people in a place like that! ANd his buisness is also cool too i guess.

He doesn't know the full story. I take my place and prepare myself. I've been practicing a new technique with my quirk that I'm sure will help me in a battle like this.

Midnight: Battle Start!

Kaminari slams his hands on the ground and lets out a huge pulse of electricity. I leaped into the air and surrounded my body in (F/C) psionic energy, keeping it afloat. I smirk, seeing as how I've already won.

Kaminari: Aw come on, You can fly?! How is that any fair?

You: What's that saying again? You snooze you lose? Well, it was a valiant attempt.

A simple swipe of my hands sent him out of bounds, ending the match rather quickly. I touch the ground and deactivate my quirk. I turn to the stands and see that Kendou smiling and giving me a thumbs up. Class 1-B was also cheering for me too. This is nice. I wonder if I did well in father's eyes, however.
