*this is Ash-centric because she's my favourite to write, also kind of an au? I guess?? It's pretty sad guys*
Ash Graven was 16 and a half when she realised that the 'team squad' were a family
Ash graven was 16 and a half when she realised she wasn't a part of that family
They were nice to her, treated her well. She didn't complain, how could she? She was used to not being wanted
And so was Fox
...
The 'team squad' had decided to have their meals in the board room, Ash and Fox weren't aware of this of course, no-one had bothered to tell them
They had found out on a hunt for food. They were scouring every inch of the ship, Wondering where the It had gone.
Ash was the one to suggest the board room, she wished she hadn't
The team squad were there, in their bubble of bliss
Gary and Avacato were in some kind of arm wrestle, little Cato and KVN were cheering them on. Quinn was recounting old memories with HUE and tribore, Sheryl was watching it all with an amused smile
The table was full, there was no room for ash and FoxThey were clearly intruding
Quinn was the first to spot them. she had started to get up but was pulled back down by HUE, who was really getting into the story.
There was a long table with food on it, Ash avoided eye contact with everyone else and headed toward it.
She wanted to cry but decided to wait until no-one was watching
She had to be strong for Fox, who would easily break down any time now
Ash made a plate for herself and Fox rather quickly, she could feel the eyes boring into the back of her skull.Ash made sure to leave quick too, not wanting to intrude on these people for much longer.
Before Ash walked out the door she stopped and rebalanced her plate, which was teetering a little.
Unfortunately that led to her making eye contact with Gary who looked like he had something to say.She couldn't deal with it much longer and practically shoved Fox out the door
"Fox, Ash-" it was Gary
"I get it, We're leaving" came her curt response
...
They wondered around for a while, wondering where to sit so that they wouldn't be pitied.
Fox suggested his and little Cato's shared room. Ash was too numb to have an opinion at this point so she gave him a weak smile and thumbs up instead.
They sat down, Fox on his bed and ash had pulled up a chair
They chewed silently for a moment before Ash had decided to be strong for him
"You're my family you know?"
Fox's tears were visible
"You don't need them because I'm always going to be here for you"
Fox leaned in to give her a hug, not a big, tight one but a soft and fragile hug
She felt as if he would break any minute
