Falling for the Veterinary Pathologist

Chapter 4

After it got dark out we all packed up and went to the zoo. We were currently outside at one of the power boxes waiting for Abraham to cut the wires to disable the security system.

"You know, we usually just cut all the wires." Ray tells Abraham.

He looks up from what he's doing and says, "Which will deactivate the security and the camera systems. We need the cameras active so Jamie can advise us to any security guards."

Ray tells him, " All right, look, I think it's red."

I look between the two at the wires, "I also think it's red."

"Right reds the alarm,blues the security cameras." Ray tell Abraham.

Abraham reluctantly sighs and cuts the blue wire instead. Then he takes out his phone and call who I'm assuming is Jamie. "Hey, Jamie. How's that?" There's a silent pause as we wait for Abraham to say something. "Okay tell Mitch and Chloe that the alarms have been deactivated."

Another moment of silence goes by and he hangs up the phone. Ray says, "that's a lucky guess" he walks away from Abraham and the power box towards our group. "Be ready."

I salute him mockingly and reply, "roger that."

Jackson them comes and hands out different animal masks. He hands me the tiger mask. I put my mask on and we wait for Abraham to open the gates.

"Open it up, Abe." Jackson says. Abraham taps some wires together and soon enough the gate starts to open.

Ray orders, "Cody, stay by the truck. Mack go keep watch by the main entrance. I'm gonna stick with Anissa while Mitch and Chloe get the electroporator." He really had to use that nick name in front of everyone.

We all follow our orders and move on our way throughout the zoo. I move over to a small bush and hide behind it enough to where I'm hidden but can still see anyone coming.

My main job is man power. I keep watch and if a security guard is coming it's my job to take them out. Now most of the time I like to use knives or my hand gun but the other team insisted on no gun and no violence. But just because they said no guns doesn't mean I still didn't bring mine.

I hear foot steps coming and can only assume it's a security guard. Normally I'd jump out and knock them out but Jackson's team wanted no violence. So instead I told a small step back and hid in the dark bushes.

I hold my breath as I see the guard walk by and scan the area with his flashlight. I stay completely still. Then I hear them walkie, "Sector four is clear."

I let my breath out slow and steady. We're good. We've made it. Jackson, Anissa, and Ray work on getting the different animals to the trailer while I still keep watch.

I was watching Anissa spray paint FARM on the zoo sign when Jackson came running up. He said, "We gotta go!" 

He tries grabbing Anissa's arm but she says, "Wait, Jackson, there's more animals." She heads to go back and get more animals but Jackson grabs her arm. I take my knife out and get ready for a fight.

Jackson hurriedly says, "Gotta go; security's closing in on us." With that the three of us run off towards the trailer.

As we run we meet up with Mitch and Chloe. Mitch says, " Chloe and I got what we came for."

We all continue to jog as Jackson says, " we  got trouble! Head to the truck!"

By now we've all met up including Ray who overheard Jackson talking about trouble and asks, "What kind of trouble?"

Holding my knife tight in my hand Jackson says,"No time to explain. Now, go!"

We all go to run but a guard comes running our way yelling, " Hey! Hey!"

Jackson yells, " Go back! Go back! Go back!" As we all scurry to turn and run the other way.

We're only met with another guard aiming his gun at us yelling, "Hey! Hey! Don't move!"

It's all a panic, we're now surrounded and have guns pointing at us from all different angles. As I secretly behind on of the concrete structures I take my guns out from behind my back and aim it steadily at a guard waiting for his move first.

I must have been pretty well hidden because Jackson pleads with them and says, "put away the guns. We're unarmed."

The guard yells to take off our masks so I take mine off and toss it into the grass and trees. It was making it hard to see anyways.

I can hear the light sound of metal and I know I wasn't the only one on our team who brought a gun. Cody then stands with his gun aimed at a guard and shoots. 

He manages to hit a guard but we all hurry to cover. I'm hidden behind a taller concrete pillar. Not that I needed a big one. I was the smallest of the team.

Next thing I know everything was chaos. I peak around the pillar just enough I manage to shoot a guard in the leg. He hollers in pain and falls to the ground. Baby.

I try to move back behind but I was too slow. I got shot right in my left thigh. I hear more gun shots and then I hear Anissa yell, "Ray!"

He must have got shot. That idiot! He knows I'm a better aim. And he was shooting out in the open. He didn't have cover like I did.

I manage to peak around and shoot the last guard in the shoulder. Before we all start running back to the trailer.
