Annabeth sat in the seat of Percy's blue Subaru. The car smelled like blueberry muffins and Percy. Annabeth couldn't describe the scent, it just smelled like him.

She stared at the window. It was pouring rain outside and she started racing the raindrops on the window like when she was a kid. Her heart thinking about her younger self. So gullible. Her heart ached when she thought about her dad. There was an emptiness in her heart where love used to be.

"What street are you on?" asked Percy.

Annabeth broke her staring contest with the raindrops and looked at Percy. "Um, E street. House 426."

Percy pulled onto her street and put the car in park when he came in front of her house. He made eye contact with Annabeth. It looked like he wanted to kiss her.

But that couldn't be right. They hated each other.

Annabeth just then realised how beautiful his eyes were. Deep green, almost so green that they don't look natural, but only if you looked close enough.

Annabeth found herself leaning towards him, and she caught herself. She opened the door, grabbed her bag, and got out into the rain.

She forced a smile. "Thanks for the ride, Cloud Macchiato. See you tomorrow." She shut the car door and walked up to the front steps of her house.

As Annabeth was about to open the door, Thalia was standing in the doorway. "Was that Percy?" she asked. "I thought you two hated each other."

Annabeth stepped into the warm house. "I was working with him on our project and afterwards he offered me a ride home. I didn't want to walk in the rain, so what?"

Thalia smiled, just a little bit, almost so you couldn't it. "Nothing. Just come eat some dinner. The boys already ate, but I waited for you. They're watching Tinkerbelle in the living room."

;;;

That night, Annabeth lay in her bed. The boys were in bed, Thalia went home after watching TV with her a few hours ago.

But Annabeth couldn't stop thinking about Percy. His stupid grin and the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed; when he smiled  Annabeth's heart twisted, but in a good way. Or was it a good way? Annabeth wouldn't know.

A buzz from her phone interrupted her thoughts.

Cloud Macchiato: are you ok?

Annabeth: Yes, why

Cloud Macchiato: you seemed rlly freaked today at the cafe and when i dropped u off

Annabeth: I'm okay, I was just late getting home

Cloud Macchiato: ok, let me know if i can do anything. im here for you

A minute went by before another text popped up.

Cloud Macchiato: me and my bad grammar

Annabeth smiled and typed back a thanks, then turned her phone off and tried to go to bed again.
