"As you wish, darling," Percy said as Annabeth sat down during her break.

"What?"

"Nothing. Are you on your break?"

"No. I'm off for the day. Why?"

Percy snorted. "No reason. I don't care."

Annabeth sighed. "Why are you being extra weird today? Can we just get this assignment done so I can go home?"

"Yeah." Percy started pulling papers from his bag. "I got this work done. I also found evidence about the slavery."

Annabeth didn't respond.

Percy's eyebrows pinched together. "Are you okay? Is this about the me having a good grade thing?"

Annabeth glanced up from her lap. "What? No, yeah, I'm fine. Why?"

"I mean..." Percy started. Annabeth was getting more and more confused at Percy today. "Are you parents around?"

Annabeth raised her eyebrows. "Yes," she lied. "Why do you ask that?"

Percy blew out a breath. "This is a town where everyone knows everyone, we've known each other since elementary... I haven't seen your dad since you were 15."

Annabeth felt panicked. "He is away working. You know my mom left when I was young, but my dad is around. He's in Europe."

Percy didn't look like he believed her, but he didn't say anything. Annabeth got a weird feeling in her tummy. She couldn't tell if it was because she lied to him or because he might suspect, or something else, but she took up. "I should get home." Annabeth started walking towards the cafe door.

"Annabeth, wait!" Percy called, packing up his stuff. "Just wait a minute. Let me drive you home. Its too cold to walk today."

Annabeth shifted from foot-to-foot. "Okay," she said.
