*MATURE THEMES* NOT Smut!

A few hours had passed, and it was now around 2pm. Mark slowly opened his eyes, them feeling heavy and swollen. He slowly sat up and realized johnny wasn't there. He rubbed at his eyes as he stood up from the couch. He walked out of the living room towards the kitchen where he hear soft music playing at a low volume and johnny humming. He stepped onto the tiled floor and looked at johnny.

He was wearing an apron, standing at the stove. He pulled his bangs up into a ponytail as he stirred a pot with chopsticks and drizzled in some soy sauce.

"johnny?" mark said walking towards him.

"oh Mark. I'm sorry, did I wake you?"

Mark smiled.

"no no, I woke up on my own."

"do you feel any better?" johnny asked sweetly.

"yeah, I feel a little better."

Johnny turned off the burner and walked over to mark. He pulled him close placing a kiss on his un-slapped cheek.

"what was that for?" mark giggled.

"just cuz." Johnny smiled a toothy grin.

"you're such a dork." Mark teased.

"yeah, yeah, I know. Hey, I made some ramen if you feel like eating something." Johnny said as he placed two bowls on the table.

Mark smiled. "thank you johnny, you didn't have to do all this."

"nonsense. Of course I did. I'm going to do everything I can to make you happy Mark."

Mark's cheeks flushed as he sat down. Johnny handed him a pair of chopsticks and a glass of water.

They ate their lunch in a comfortable silence. Mark fell in love with the taste of johnny's ramen. It was the best he'd ever had. He finished his bowl and drank the broth from the bottom.

"Johnny, that was so good, where did you learn to cook?"

Johnny laughed as he brought the bowls to the sink.

"my mom mostly. She was always teaching me new recipes when I was in high school."

"she sounds amazing." Mark said with sparkling eyes.

"she was." Johnny said with a small smile as he rinsed the bowls.

Mark paused.

"was?" he asked carefully.

Johnny turned off the faucet but stayed facing the kitchen window.

"my mom died when I was eighteen. She had pancreatic cancer for a long time, but she never told me. Later my aunt told me that she wanted to hold on long enough for me to go off to college..." johnny's voice was low and gentle.

Mark reached up and placed his hand on his shoulder.

"oh god johnny, I'm so sorry... I shouldn't have asked..."

"no! no, it's okay, it was a long time ago."

"My mother left us when I was seven. She never gave us a reason why, one day she was just gone. She never gave me a way to contact her or a hint as to where she went. After that, my dad... you know, stopped caring about me."

"My dad's in prison." Johnny said flatly.

"he got involved with drugs. Became a dealer to help pay for my mother's medical bills."

"guess both of us got fucked up families huh" johnny laughed. He didn't know why he was laughing but he was. Mark laughed too.

"guess we do." He chuckled as smiles filled their faces. It felt so odd to be smiling at such terrible memories, but they were.
