QUICK LITTLE THING; THIS IS NOT MEANT TO HURT ANYONE I JUST WANT TO SPEAK MY OPINION

Ah, yes, who can look up a good one-shot book without running into these?
Okay, so I know a lot of people read and/or write these, but to me they're really annoying.

*Y/n books*
These types of fan fictions drive me crazy. Sometimes I just want to find a good book about my otp, and a book like this pops up with one of the characters.
I'm not saying this to be prissy, but I get really annoyed when that happens. Maybe it's just me, but when I ship people, I do not ship myself with one of the people in said ship. It doesn't make sense to me, and I can hardly see myself doing this.
When I do read these (which is when I'm really desperate), I try to insert the other character's name in the y/n spots. Not only is this a hassle, but I normally end up just reading it as y/n instead of the character's name.
*Defense*
I may not like these fanfics, but I can see why other people might. Being in a story that you like is probably exciting for them, especially if they're the love interest of a character they like. However, this backfired for me because #1, I have never been attracted to anyone ever and #2, the characters are usually really out of character (repetitive, but whatever), and if I did like them, I wouldn't like how their personality is reshaped to match mine.
*Conclusion*
In conclusion, I definitely see why some people might like these, but they're really just a nuisance to people who are very passionate about their otp, and know they would probably hate themselves if they were watching/reading the series and got in the way of their shipping madness.

*Oc shipping books (canon character)*
I am a little torn about these. On one hand, it's sort of interesting to see someone else character interact with real things in the series, but on the other hand, they run themselves off on their oc and seem to be y/n shippers in disguise. This is annoying on multiple levels.
If you read the section above, you should know why I hate y/n books. They get in the way of shipping and the character from the series is completely changed in personality. These books do both of those things, though some do worse than others.
I once read this really good oc x Qibli Wings if Fire fanfic. It was really good even though I shipped Moonbli, and I really felt that they were trying their best to have Qibli stay Qibli. After that one, I decided to give others a chance, and I inevitably lost trust in them once more. It was another oc x Qibli one, except it was way worse.
Don't get me wrong, the writing was okay, but it didn't sound like Qibli, and unlike the other fic, Moon had been erased completely. It was almost as if they knew there was no way that their oc could 'win' against Moon (This is Moon we're talking about)! I stopped reading that one, and found a continuing trend of the second one being more common than the first, except somehow worse. For example, half the Star Wars oc x insert character take the actual love interest and turn them into horrible people.
*Defense*
Now, if there is a single character who happens to have a large number of fan girls/boys, I will sometimes read an oc x their name book because I feel bad for them. This happens for characters like Winter (WoF) and others who lost in a love triangle. This is pretty much my way of hoping they find someone to love and to love them, because at the end of the day, even if they're a jerk, everyone deserves love.
*Conclusion*
All in all, it really depends on the character in the story and how it's written. I would advise to read the description of each book if you want to read one.

*Non-canon ship books*
I have one word to describe these books. Disgusting. These unholy abominations remind me of unfaithfulness. I am normally a strong-willed canon shipper that has zero tolerance for non-canon bs.
The people who write it usually have to change the characters' entire personality for them to get together.
*Defense*
The only defense I see is that the writer doesn't like the canon. Only on one occasion did I not like canon, but I was okay with the other canon ships so I wasn't as salty as these weirdos.
*Conclusion*
In conclusion, I really hate these types of books. It's okay if you or someone you know likes them, but for me they're just really weird. I find the other ones are redeemable to me, but that's just my opinion.
