Emily
Beep beep beep beep beep
I groaned as I turned off my alarm. I have always hate mornings. I just want to sleep in and just snuggle into my fluffy bed and cute rhinoceros. Yes. A rhinoceros, most people have a teddy bear, but I, Emily Vergara, have a stuffed rhino. I slowly sat up and rubbed my face. Stupid work. I was so tired. I hate that I had to work two jobs just so I could support myself. I am 18 years old and living on my own. Story of my life.
I quickly grabbed the cereal and milk for my breakfast. Glancing at the clock, I cursed under my breath. I only have half an hour before I was late. Guess I'm not eating breakfast today. I rushed to the bathroom to take a shower and got myself ready for work for about 10 minutes. Now that's what you call speed. As soon as I got out of my apartment, I ran to my car and went on my way to work. Thank God, there was barely any traffic today.
Once I got to the bakery where I worked, I parked the car and swiftly went to the back. "Nice to see you've decided to join us today" I heard Katya, my boss say behind me. I stopped and turned around, tightly smiling. "Hi," I greeted. She chuckled, "Let me guess, late set?" she asked, crossing her arms and leaning on the counter. I sighed. "Rehearsal," I am so glad Katya understands my situation. She is literally one of the best bosses in the world. She can be strict at times but she is just the sweetest person you would ever meet. "Just don't be late, next time, okay? I know you're not today, but it was close" she said. I nodded, saluting at her, smiling. "Yes ma'am" I grinned, causing her to roll her eyes. "And don't ever call me 'ma'am', again," she said, shaking her head. I laughed and went on my day, serving people.
Being a waitress is okay to me, I have fun here at the bakery but this isn't what I want in life. And I can't do anything about that because I need this job. If I lose this, money's going to be tight for me. I have bills to pay, not to mention I have to pay for my tuition in school. I like my other job better. Performing is just my passion.
"You, girl, hurry up wiping those tables, we need you back here!" Derek, the head baker, exclaimed at me from the kitchen. I rolled my eyes, finishing up the last table.
Another reason why I liked my other job more is that the people there a little bit nicer than the people here in the bakery. Yes, we have a cool boss but the employees are a different story. Just because I was way younger than them and I was a girl, they looked down on me. They treat me like shit if I'm being honest.
"She has a name, Derek, or do I need to remind you that we respect people here?" I heard Katya scold him. I made my way to the kitchen, bumping into her. I gave her a small smile, before going into hell. The kitchen is always the worst. They are the meanest, most annoying bunch ever. "Do the dishes quickly, so we could all go home, already" one of the bakers instructed in a not so friendly manner. I quietly sighed and proceeded to wash the dishes. Just as I was about to finish up, someone placed a few more dirty dishes in front of me.
"Sorry to do this to you, Emily. I was planning to stay behind and do them myself but Derek forced me to let you do it." another baker who was a few years older than me, said. He was a good kid, he was always one of the few who actually treated me like a person. I turned to him and gave him a tired smile. "It's fine. Go home, I'll be okay" He nodded and patted me on the back. After a few minutes, I finally finished and got out of that wretched kitchen. I grabbed my stuff from the mini lockers we had at the corner and bid goodbye to Katya.
It was now 5 in the afternoon and I still had a few assignments to do once I get home. I was bummed that I didn't have to go to my other job today since it was a Thursday but I'm a little grateful because I at least had time to relax a little and not worry about other stuff. I got into my car, suddenly receiving a call from my other boss, Ryan.
"Hello?" I greeted, putting on the seatbelt. "Hey, Emily. I was wondering if you're free tomorrow afternoon until evening?" He asked.
Ryan is another awesome boss. He was two years older than me so he was quite young for being the CEO of his own company. Like Katya, he doesn't like it when we call him 'sir', so he encourages us to just adress him by his name, which is weird but kind of nice.
"Uh, I don't think so. I might have a few meetings throughout the day but I think that's it, why?" I asked, leaning into the car seat. "I was just making sure your schedule here is in-sync with your other schedules. Brianna was out today so I was left with organizing everyone's schedules for tomorrow." Ryan told me, sighing. I rolled my eyes. Brianna, the secretary. She is probably the bitchiest bitch I have ever met. So fake. "Sorry to hear that. But isn't that the second time she's been out for like a month?" I said, starting the car, so I could leave the parking lot as soon as the call ends. "Yeah, I might have to speak to her, tomorrow. Anyway, see you, Emily. Have a nice day" he said. I bid him goodbye and made my way back home.
Turning the key, I opened the door to my apartment. It wasn't that big but it wasn't small either. Once you walk in, you immediately meet the dining area/ kitchen. The living room was further into the place. I had two bedrooms and two bathrooms since this used to be where my parents and two siblings lived with me but ever since our falling out, I was kind of left alone here. I've got to admit, it does feel a little lonely here. Always make me reminisce about the times my parents and I were on good terms.
Pushing the sadness away from my mind, I walked towards the master's bedroom, near the living room, when I saw a figure slumped into the bed. I chuckled. "Hey, stranger" I greeted, leaning on the doorframe. He turned his head to me and stood up, smiling as he went to me. Wrapping his arms around my waist, he softly kissed me on the lips. I placed my hands on his shoulders as we pressed our foreheads together. "I missed you," Jacob whispered to me. I smiled. "I missed you too. How've you been? I haven't seen you in weeks" I said to my boyfriend.
He leads me to the bed as we sat by the edge. "I've been good. Quite stressful, to be honest. How about you? You still handling everything with grace?" Jacob asked me, grinning at me. I laughed a little, shaking my head. "It's been okay, I guess. Everythings slowly stacking up on me so I'm not sure if I'm going to get through all of this still looking pretty" I told him.
He's always told me that I was beautiful, in every way, which I found so sweet. But sometimes I don't even believe that. I can't even remember the last time I ever felt pretty. But Jacob just helps me remove all the stress from my life even just for a short period of time. And make me feel a little good about myself. I'm quite happy that we chose to fight for this relationship to work. Even if we both ended up getting hurt to get here.
"Oh shush, you are the most beautiful girl in the world. No one can tell me otherwise." I smiled at Jacob. "And you are the cheesiest boy in the world. No one can tell me otherwise" I shot back with a smirk on my face. He rolled his eyes. "Shut up," he said leaning in for a kiss.
I missed this. I missed us. We've barely seen each other in weeks because of our schedules. We were both very busy which sucks, we cant even make the time. I'm starting to get scared that one day, one of us might give up because of this.
