It was the morning after, and I woke up with an intense shockwave of feelings. The first thing on my mind was Tomura, and I didn't know why. I felt butterflies last night, swarming my stomach and causing my heart to race, but I was unsure to if I had developed feelings just yet.
My stomach growled lowly, practically begging for food. "Damnit." I groaned, my words stretching as I dragged myself out of bed.
I could barely see the carpet beneath the soles of my feet, as I was stuck with blurry vision. Strands of my (Y/H/C) hair found themselves stuck to the corners of my mouth, as the empty house stayed illuminated by the bright, noon sun.
After the final step of my staircase, I finally arrived at the kitchen. Home to all the foods you can dream of, it's nearly everyone's favorite room in their house. I opened my fridge, and was instantly blasted in the face with a refreshing gust of dry air. "I missed you, fridge."
Not knowing what to choose for my lunch, I went with the safest option. "A simple bagel would be fine." I said, before pulling out the packaged stack of whole wheat ones.
I popped them into the toaster, then grabbing a package of butter and a jar of blackberry jam. As my body leaned over the marble counter, I took to social media while waiting for my bagels to cook. "What's new today?" I wondered.
News channels were still flooded with the shocking impact of All Might beginning a new career as a U.A teacher. I rolled my eyes, scrolling up on my phone screen to exit the tab. The next step in my daily routine would be to check my piled emails, but they consisted of mostly spam anyways.
Today was different, though. I was pleasantly greeted with a follow-up email, one that I had been expecting for the past day. To cut it short, it was an acceptance letter, informing me that the company would be delighted to take my offer up on a job. "That was- unusually fast."
"I mean, what did I expect from a society where superhuman powers are real?" I continued, smiling happy at my phone screen.
The sudden sound of the toaster finishing its rounds never failed to make me jump. I unplugged the machine, wrapping the black cord around its body. Quickly spreading the golden butter and sweet, blackberry jam over the half-bagel, I dug my teeth into its dough and sprinted back up the carpeted stairs.
"Let's go pick up that puppy!" I exclaimed, finishing the bagel and wiping off my sticky fingertips.
Throwing on a faded pair of jean shorts, I matched it with one of my black, graphic hoodies. It wasn't anything like my outfit yesterday, but I was only going to be gone for a short while. Keeping my hands free from any luggage, I stuffed my phone into my back-pocket instead of unhooking my bag.
The pet shop was nearby, and I could barely contain my excitement. I hadn't decided a name for the young puppy yet, but I'm sure the perfect name will come to me eventually. My original plan was to ponder over names during my stroll, but the undeniable beauty emitting off the cherry blossom trees caught me in a daze.
Like before, the flimsy door created a chime whenever someone walked in. The same employee I had encountered yesterday was working another shift today, and they excitedly pranced up to me. "Hi! Are you here to pick up the puppy?" they asked.
"Yeah, I am." I responded, my eyes restricting themselves from glancing over at the desperate pup.
After preparing the paperwork, the worker then brought out a blue kennel from behind the limited-access doors. She picked up the delicate puppy, cradling it one last time before guiding it into the kennel. Delivering the kennel over to me, my fingers formed a strong grip around the handle.
The puppy was afraid, unsure of what will happen next. I held the kennel close to my body, trying to not make any sudden moves or shake it. Paying the last of the fees, we were finally ready to go home.
I head out of the pet shop, the bright sun-rays gleaming down onto my forehead. The puppy continued to squirm and whimper softly, not knowing it was in good hands now. For the short duration of the walk, a wide smile was planted across my warm cheeks. "I still haven't decided on a name for you yet." I mumbled.
My priority was focused on getting home safely, but now that I had make it back, all I wanted was to free the puppy from its past cages. I unlocked the metal bars, and gave it time to adjust. A new influx of smells and noise is terrifying for anyone.
Scouting my kitchen, I noticed that there was nothing worthy to feed the pup. It's not like I had any raw meat, or dog food. "You're so stupid, (Y/N)!" I thought, before lightly slapping my forehead in repeated motions.
I was stressed, not knowing what to do. It was the afternoon, but I couldn't just leave abruptly with a frightened puppy. There was nobody else living with me that could take care of him, but then a soft feeling lingered around my ankles.
Looking down, the first thing I noticed was the pup's auburn fur. It was a miniature poodle, a young one to say the least. He already had his shots and was neutered, so I really had nothing to worry about. The puppy cuddled against my bare ankle, occasionally licking my skin with its wet tongue.
I reached my fingers down, allowing the puppy to get a hint of my scent. It seemed nervous at first, but then warmed up to me quickly. Closing the wooden cabinet doors, I then knelt down onto the floor, lightly bruising my knees.
My fingertips caressed over the puppy's ear, eventually strolling down to its neck. Its curly hair was soft to the touch, and wasn't tangled at all. After admiring the beauty of its fur once more, I finally came up with a name for my newest friend.
"Almond. That'll be your name!" I smiled, the puppy slobbering all over my skin.
The puppy seemed to enjoy its name, despite not being able to comprehend my words or language. "Sweet, little Almond." I hummed.
