Chapter 18 - Joy’s Side

**Luanna’s POV**

Today was the day! Three weeks had passed since my date with Mark. We have seen each other a few times again since then. Living with Dust and his siblings have been a blast! Joy got back to me. Uncle Char, Aunt T, me, Joy and her adoptive parents all met up with our lawyers. We were adopting her back! The both of us were turning 17 soon, so we’d both be moving out anyway. I am so excited! Today is the day she moves in!

“Luanna, did you clean your room and the bathroom?” Gina called, from the kitchen.

“Yes!” Joy was moving in next to Gina’s room. Let me explain our house layout.

On the bottom floor, there’s a family room, that leads into the hallway. The hallway leads into the kitchen which is next to a pair of French doors. Those doors are my room and personal bathroom. The dining room is connected to the kitchen. The bathroom is next to the stairs and the room with our grand piano.

Upstairs, there are five rooms. One is Uncle Chars and Aunt T’s. One’s Connor’s, one’s Gina’s. There’s a bathroom next to Joy’s room. Then an empty room where Dustin is sleeping. Then the movie theater room.

In the basement there is one bedroom, one bathroom, and a huge big room where we store basementy kind of things. Clara, Bridget, and Thomas are down there with the TV. Go figure.

*Hours later*

**Joy’s POV**

‘I was finally going to live with my sister! I’m definitely sad about saying goodbye to Mom and Dad though,’ I thought. I thought so long and hard about my past.

Mr. & Mrs. Becket independently adopted me. That meant that my real parents could come and see me any time they wanted. I found out of their passing two years after it had happened. It was horrid. You go two whole years wondering if your mom will come back and see you and she doesn’t and it’s devastating. So Jolly Joy’s, ironically, is where my mom took me on my fifth birthday. Sure she was a couple days late but that didn’t stop her from seeing me. I never really did meet my father. She would show me pictures of him and my sister though.  That was the last I saw of her. She passed when Lu and I were about nine.

I snapped out of my thoughts when Dad came to my bedroom window. He glanced around my barren room as tears welled up in his eyes.

“Oh, Daddy, don’t cry!” I went and hugged him. “I’m coming over every two weeks. You and Mom have nothing to worry about.”

“I know, Joy, but it’s still hard on your mom and I.”

After finishing the second most painful goodbye in my life, I got in Dad’s car and we left for the Deford’s. I was a Kolbe, not a Becket. It was so exciting.
