*Littlekit's POV*
I felt a shuffle beside me, and which me to open my eyes. I had fallen asleep. My mother was holding tight of me and Cloudkit. I looked around. We were no longer in the nursery. Where were we?
"Mother?" I said trembling. "Oh Littlekit. I'm so glad you're ok!" She released a sigh of relief and caressed my cheek with her tongue.
"Littlekit!" Cloudkit's weight fell on me as he pounced on me. I felt weak. My mother glared at Cloudkit, and he walked off my back. "Mother....what happened? Why are we in WillowStar's den?" I asked looking at her.
"Darling. Do you remember anything about Yesterday?" She asked looking down at me. "I remember....a dog broke into camp. LionClaw died. And then.....I can't remember. It's all blurry." I mumbled. Shifting my weight from paw to paw.
My mother blinked and looked up. "Mother?" I asked. She didn't answer. "What happened yesterday?" I asked again. She looked back at me. "The nursery was destroyed Littlekit. The dog destroyed it. And you passed out as it did." She explained swaying her tail softly, side to side as she spoke.
"Is that why we are here?" I asked looking around. She nodded. "Mother. Where's Amberkit?" I asked her. Her face saddened, and her eyes turned off to an opaque dark green.
"Amberkit.....Amberkit didn't survive." She said. Her voice turning to shreds as she spoke. Pain clawed my belly. "Are you saying....Amberkit is.....dead?!" I gasped. Cloudkit looked away, and my mother nodded. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I unsheathed my tiny claws and sunk them into the moss bed.
My mother licked my cheek, and that's when I felt them. Warm and salty. Running down my cheeks. "She's with StarClan now Littlekit. She'll be safe with us." A sweet calming voice echoed through my mind. "Who's there?" I thought. There was no answer.
I laid down in a tiny ball, as I heard running towards us. "Are you all right?" QuietHeart's voice echoed through the cave and reached our ears.
"We are." My mother said. "Thank StarClan." The small brown medicine cat sighed relieved and walked to us. "Let me check your wounds." She said, and I felt her paw brush my side. I dropped myself, and felt unable to sit up again.
QuietHeart applied a cob web on a small wound. She did the same to Cloudkit, and then my mother. Cloudkit looked fine, but my mother had a large red wound over her shoulder, and her ear was folded down.
"Nothing too serious."QuietHeart meowed and applied a herb salve to my mothers shoulder. She winced, but thanked the apprentice with a nod. QuietHeart smiled, bowed her head and left the den.
My mother and I left WillowStar's den and gazed down. Disaster was all I could see.
Three dead bodies scattered around camp, none of them LionClaws, blood bathing parts of the grass, den parts were scattered all around camp, and many, many injured cats. I gasped.
How come one dog caused so much pain for a strong clan? I started running down the path, my paws guiding me involuntarily.
"Littlekit wait!" My mother meowed but it didn't stop me. I got to where QuietHeart was, and touched her side with my paw. She turned to me and looked down.
"How can I help you?" I said. She twitched her ear and shook her whiskers. "Oh. Hey Littlekit." She meowed a greeting and applied salve to a warrior's wound.
"Can I help you?" I asked again. "Sure. Can you bring me a little bit more of this." She pointed at a few roots beside her. "They are called Comfrey Roots." She said to me with a smile.
I approached them, sniffed them, and hurried to her den as quickly as I could. "Hmmm....where could they be?" I asked myself as I searched. "There." I smiled when I spotted a pile of the same roots QuietHeart had.
I grabbed as much as I could with my teeth, and padded back to where she was. The strong scent filling my nose and made my eyes feel watery.
I left them beside her and sat down. "Great job Littlekit! Thank you." QuietHeart meowed with a smile. She grabbed one and made a salve. "Here. Help me put the salve on SpottedPelt's wound." QuietHeart said and pointed at a tortoiseshell tom laying on his side.
I nodded and soaked my paw in the salve, before limping away to the toms side. "Hey Littlekit." He greeted me and I bowed my head as my mother told me to. I applied the salve and saw him relax as the pain lowered down a little. I smiled.
So this is what being a Medicine Cat was like? I like it.
No, I love it.
