Yuta never expected that Mark would make the day more about him than himself, even though it was the boy's birthday. He felt slightly guilty for it, did Mark just feel sorry for him? Is that why he cancelled on Eunji? Out of pity? Probably. He faced Mark, who was sitting opposite him at the restaurant that the younger boy dragged them to and fiddled with his fingers underneath the table. He clearly wasn't the only one who had been feeling awkward, despite him being so confident earlier, Mark was avoiding his gaze and seemed to be at a loss for words too.
An uncomfortable silence blanketed the two boys until the waitress came by to take their order. Sensing the tension too, she left as quickly as she came. The awkwardness was almost too much to bear, Yuta didn't really have much to say to Mark, since he didn't care to talk about Eunji. However, Mark had seemed to come to the conclusion that Yuta wasn't too fond of his girlfriend, so when he cleared his throat to speak, it was to start a conversation about something else for once.
"Hyung..."
"..."
Yuta was too occupied with staring at Mark to notice him speak. He was wearing a collared shirt, while it was definitely a new look, it suited the fifteen year old, it made him seem more grown up but the collar had not been set down properly. The end was flicked upwards and grazed Mark's neck as he swallowed, he was transfixed.
"Hyung."
"Huh? Yeah?"
"I was asking if you wanted to watch Black Butler with me later? I know you've watched it already with Winwin but I kinda wanted to watch it too. You don't really seem interested though, I can ask Eunji if she wants to-"
"NO!"
Yuta was cussing himself out in his head. This is absolutely not what he wanted to happen. Sure he'd watched that particular anime at least three times over by now but he'd rather die than miss an opportunity to spend time with and to cuddle Mark.
"Uh, I mean, no its okay I'd love to watch Black Butler with you"
"Great! Can we start as soon as we get home?"
"Sure, Markie"
"...You haven't called me that in ages"
It was true, he hadn't, at least not out loud. Ever since they'd started drifting, Yuta had felt he had to drop the habit of calling his soulmate by that particular nickname. Of course the fans had noticed that too and were asking about what had happened between the two. Nothing seemed to slip by them. Now that Mark had mentioned his screw up, he began to feel self conscious. Really self conscious. Mark was going to hate him and he was going to get up and leave. The silence seemed to creep back until Yuta snapped out of his small moment of self loathing.
"I guess I haven't, do you feel uncomfortable with it? Should I stop?"
Wow. Someone needed to give the man a medal, he said that without stuttering and almost completely pulled off his false nonchalance.
"No, uh, I like it. You're the only one who calls me that and you're also the only person person I allow to call me that. Eunji tried it once, but it felt wrong somehow."
Yuta couldn't even stop the victorious smile that spread across his face; the soulmate bond was doing its job for once. This seemed to lighten the mood a little, Mark gained confidence from Yuta's bright smile that he missed.
