"Hi dear" she sighed and pulled away to look at me
"Hi" I smiled "how are you?"
"Loosing my mind, you try spending your summer with six boys, yes six, two of which are teaching their younger brother pranks. One is insistent on being the perfect person, one determined to become a curse breaker and another wanting to work with some of the most dangerous animals you can think of never mind the ones you can't think of"
"What about Ginny? Surely she's been keeping you sane" I laughed
"Yeah but she's only a child, she is just as much hard work as the others"
"Well they'll all be out of your hair before you know it"
"I know. And then all I'll do is complain that I miss them" she smiled
"Violet! Hi!" George beamed at me as he seemed to appear out of no where
"Hey, how's your summer been?"
"Great, hasn't it mum" he laughed. Molly just rolled her eyes "what about you?" He asked and got me a coffee
"Good. Been nice to just switch off for a bit. I've missed everyone though"
"Someone in particular a bit more I bet" he teased "no need to get stroppy, he's been the same" he passed a coffee to me and smiled
"It's good to see you"
"You too" he agreed and looked at the staircase when he heard the steps creaking. His younger brother Ron walked in, looking tiny and terrified, and ask Molly if he could eat something. He looked disappointed when she said no because lunch was soon.
"You'll need to fatten up though Ron, if you don't the sorting hat will eat you alive. It's happened before when a skinny boy just like you started Hogwarts"
"Shut up George. That's just not true"
"It is I swear. Isn't it true Vi?" George looked at me with a cheeky face, I looked at Ron and saw a glimpse of fear in his eyes and didn't have the heart to scare him.
"Don't listen to George. Besides even if it was true the sorting hat would think you're far too smart and adorable to eat you alive" he blushed a little and nodded
"See, I knew it wasn't true George" he huffed and went back to his room
"You just couldn't keep it up could you" George sighed and nudged me
"Sorry. I wish I had siblings so I'm not going to be mean to yours"
"Yeah, and besides, if you and Fred ever get married then technically I'd be your brother"
"That's true. But one step at a time, no need to be talking about marriage"
"Good and keep it that way" Molly warned us "you're far too young. Finish studying and get settled in a job and then you can start thinking about it"
"So, not to sound like I want to rush off, but... where is Fred?"
"He's out at the minute. Helping Bill with something. He'll be back soon don't worry. He wanted to be here but Bill insisted" he had a sorry face since he obviously knew I would be desperate to see Fred
"It's okay, don't worry. I didn't expect him to be here. In the meantime you can keep telling me stories from this summer and how you've been giving your mum mini heart attacks"
3 hours later I was in the garden watching George, Ron and Ginny play some sort of game I'm pretty sure George made up just to bully them. They kept looking defeated and like they wanted to smack him every time he very conspicuously won. Ginny eventually gave up and sat next to me on the wooden bench.
"I like your hair" she said softly
"Thank you. I like yours. It's a beautiful colour" I complimented her. She blushed and smiled wide at me
"It's just the same as my brothers. Percy says everyone knows who we are because of our hair. I wish I had dark hair like yours. When I'm older I'm going to find a potion that changes hair colour"
"Don't listen to Percy. It's beautiful. And it's a good thing if people know you're a Weasley. You're one of the best families in my opinion"
"That's because you love Fred" I excused her bluntness due to her young age, being only 9 years old she won't fully understand how to say things with discretion.
"Maybe so, but don't tell Fred" I whispered "can you promise?" It wouldn't matter if she did anyway since he first dropped the 'L' word about a year ago. She nodded vigorously and started telling me about her friend she has been seeing through summer. It sounded like she had a little crush but I didn't want to embarrass her by asking.
"Lunch is ready" Molly shouted through the window
"Come on Violet. Sit next to me!" Ginny pleaded and pulled my hand.
As we sat round the table eating lunch Ginny kept chatting to me about her summer, Ron kept complaining that George was winding him up too much, Percy kept his nose in a book and Charlie was babbling Mollys ear off talking about something he learned today.
"Stop looking so sad. He'll be here soon" George said quietly
"I know. I'm enjoying Ginny's stories anyway" I smiled. He gave me a look that said 'I know you're lying'. I just rolled my eyes and took another bite of food "can you give me a hand taking my bags upstairs?"
"Sure" he nodded and shoved the last mouthful of food in his mouth.
He grabbed the heaviest two and made his way up to his and Fred's room. Mr. And Mrs. Weasley are comfortable with us sharing a bed when I stay here as long as we promise no funny business. We also installed a curtain that separates the room up and asked Mr. Weasley to put a silencing charm on it so it becomes sound proof. This just means we have our privacy, as does George. We keep our promise about no funny business, we don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. As soon as I stepped foot in their room I felt my heart jump at the smell of Fred. It's very distinctive, it lingers for hours.
George soon came back with the last two bags and placed them in the corner then dropped himself on his bed. I got myself one of Fred's hoodies and pulled the curtain closed while I changed. I put my favourite sweatpants on with some knit socks and Fred's hoodie. I pulled the curtain back and got sat down next to George on his bed. I also had hold of the potions book I was half way through and told him he should also be reading in preparation. He just gave me a look and went back to reading a muggle comic that he's really into.
"What's he doing with Bill?"
"I don't know really. Bill just insisted that he helped him"
"No offence but why couldn't he have asked you for help?"
"Saw Fred first. That's the genuine reason. Fred did try to get out of it but when Bill sets his mind on something there's no changing it"
"Bet you could've switched and he wouldn't have noticed"
"Maybe. But you don't want to test Bill when he's focused"
I just sighed and went back to my book. A few chapters in and notes and notes and notes later George stood up and left the room only for Fred to walk in straight after. I didn't hear him since I was reading, he stood behind me and leaned into my ear.
"Always with your nose in a book" he said softly and kissed my cheek.
