A/N - Sorry there are no spaces(the tab thingies I forgot the name of)before each paragraph. I wrote this on my phone which doesn't have a tab key lol.

Hailey sat on a bench outside of her house with her step brother, Zander. They were writing some songs, peacefully. Both of them were having fun coming up with lyrics insulting the Capitol, until a certain someone disturbed their peace.

Hailey found a toad on her paper and shrieked, throwing her paper at least 5 feet away from her and falling to the ground.

When she looked up, she saw a certain oaf starring down at her, smirking.

"Jake, what an unpleasant surprise," she said jokingly, finding a leaf and throwing it in his direction.

"Nice to see you, too, princess, and Zander," He replied, helping Hailey up.

Zander glared at him before getting up and leaving. Presumably going to Luke's house down the block.

"You know, even after being friends with him for 3 years he still seems to hate me."

The blue haired girl laughed. "Don't take it too personally, he hates pretty much everyone but Luke."

"True, you know, we'll probably die of old age before they actually get together," Jake joked, sitting next to Hailey.

"Yeah, it's a shame, really. They would make such a good couple. But, life doesn't always give you what you want."

Jake nodded, and there was a moment of silence. He looked over to her, seeing Hailey already lost in thought. She was looking at the scenery, he decided to join her since he didn't want to interrupt her train of thoughts.

"So, the reaping is coming up really soon," Jake said, after a couple minutes of silence.

"Yeah, I'm kind of nervous if I'm being honest," she responded, trying to keep the dread out of her voice. Although Jake still noticed.

"Me, too, but hey, we should try to stay positive! The chances of us getting picked out of everyone are very low, plus we only have to get through a couple more reapings until we're safe forever," he said, putting an arm around her in an effort to comfort her.

She turned her head away, pretending to look at the clouds to hide her blush. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Thanks, Jake."

"I always am," he boasted, raising both his arms into the air. And just like that the moment was ruined.

He's lucky he's cute or I'd have killed him by now, she thought rolling her eyes.

They spent the rest of the day laughing and joking around, trying to take their minds away from the horrid events happening in a couple days. Eventually they decided to work on a song together after getting bored of making Capitol jokes. That was until Zander, Luke, and Milly came up to them.

"Hailey! C'mon. What's taking you so long?" Zander asked, crossing his arms.

"What do you mean..?"

"Did you seriously forget? We're going over to Sean's place for dinner."

Hailey thought for a moment, not recalling that happening, until it hit her. "Oh yeah! Sorry, we both lost track of time."

"We? Alright who invited Jake?" the graplord said, slightly annoyed.

"I did, Zander," Hailey stood up, sighing. "He deserves to come, too."

"Fine, if you really say so. But take this dinner seriously, Jake. It'll be the last one we have as a group before the reaping."

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Jake replied, rolling his eyes. "I wonder why Luke even likes that cranky edgelord," he whispered to Hailey. They both snickered to themselves.
