Jake was in his part of the car, staring at the ceiling. He had finally gotten over the initial shock of the fact that Daisy, one of his closest friends and former(?) crush, was an avox that had to serve them. It was a punishment worse than death, never being able to talk again, seeing your friends brutally murdered, serving the people who were laughing at the cruel games. To say he was surprised at her reaction was an understatement. Both him and Hailey wanted to run over to her and hug her. They both thought she had died, and it was a somewhat relief that they were able to see a familiar face.

-----

When Hailey and Jake were walking to their rooms, they saw someone cleaning. Rosy did mention there were some Avoxes who worked here, but when they got closer, they realised that they both knew who this Avox was.

Infact, it was an old friend they hadn’t seen in a while. A white haired girl, with beautiful blue eyes and the face of an angel.

"Daisy?!"

Both of them yelled at the same time, shocked to see the face of someone they suspected as dead. They were prepared for an ounce of acknowledgement at the very least, maybe even a smile and a hug, but instead a expression of fear washed over her face as she quickly ran away from them, not looking back.

"What... what just happened?" Hailey asked, beyond confused as the seriousness of the situation finally struck them in the head.

"No," was all Jake could choke out. He thought that he'd gotten over Daisy once her 'death' was annoucned, but seeing her alive, in the same train as them caused all of those former feelings to rush back into him.

"Jake are you..?" the blue haired girl started.

"I-I need to go, see you later Hailey," Jake muttered, refusing to let her see the tears in his eyes. Before she could respond, he quickly walked off to his room, leaving Hailey confused and hurt.

-----

"Argh," he grumbled, turning over.

He felt guilty for leaving Hailey behind, but was too ashamed to stay there. He was frustrated with himself for letting his old feelings resurface in a matter of seconds into seeing Daisy. She was an Avox and he was going into a death arena, he shouldn't try anything right now.

Feeling confused and angry, he decided to deal with his feelings in the morning and get some shut eye while he still could.

-----

Breakfast the next morning was...awkward to say the least. Rosy was late and Ms. Jones was off trying to get the chef's attention for- well they weren't exactly sure what she wanted to be completely honest.

"So...um, pancakes! Tasty, right? Haha," Jake started, awkwardly laughing.

Hailey was picking at her plate, clearly not paying much attention. He coughed, trying to signal her. It seemed like she got the message.

"Huh? Oh! Yeah, my um- my favorite!" Hailey responded, Cleary being pulled out of an important train of thought.

Great, now we're back to this again. Great going, Jake. Super smooth, the boy thought to himself.

After a long, torturous silence, Jake decided he needed to speak up.

"Look, I-"

"Look, I-"

Both of them started, but stopped when they found the other whated to speak.

"Um, you can go first, Jake."
