In a way, this was bliss, a gift. I laid unmoving in the hospital that Mafu once resided in. I looked down. My hands, wrinkled with age, and some of my friends looking at me; white hair and wrinkly skin. 

I sighed. I guess this was it. I looked up, at the ceiling fan, and the hum of cicadas chirping merrily in the background. I can finally; meet Mafu.

I closed my eyes, blinking my last tear out.

"Farewell."

I looked up, squinting from the yellow light. A long spiral staircase awaited me. I took a deep breath and stepped onto the first step. 

The first step, I was born. 

The 1000th step, I was in middle school.

The 3039th step, my eyes first laid them on Mafu's petite frame.

The 5555th step, we were dating.

The 10111th step; Mafu had to stay in the hospital. 

I powered my legs even faster, trying to reach Mafu as soon as possible. 

As I ascended the steps, my skin started to appear younger, and tears streamed out. 

For the first time in my life; I was impatient. 

I held the railing as I continued to recall memories of me, of us, as I walked up the stairs.

the 153249th step; which was the death of Mafu; I cried. My tears poured down even more involuntarily. I clutched my chest; ahhh; the pain I felt that day.

Slowly I ascended up the staircase; 28888, 28889, 28890, and then the stairs that led to my death. 

By the time I reached there, I saw a boy; clad in pure white clothes, staring somewhere far away. The familiar carmine eyes and white hair; Mafu. I reached out; cried out, but no voice was heard.

I then started counting again; 27995, 27996, 27997, 27998, 27999, 28000!

I stumbled, but quickly picked myself up before sprinting as fast as possible (which is not that fast cause shut-ins don't really have any stamina built into them); and Mafu as if sensing me, turned his head, and grinned from ear to ear. He then stood and leaped into my open arms. I felt something wet. Soft hicups from the trembling albino in my arms. 

"I missed you Mafu" I smiled, pulling him closer, snaking my arms tighter around him.

A white light enveloped us.
