Annabeth jumped up from her bed, a scream piercing her ears. She instinctively grabbed her Celestial Bronze pocket knife from under her pillow and shook her hair out of her face.

The blonde took a few steps, the scream still just as loud, but none of the other Athena cabin members were waking.

'What is going on? ' Annabeth asked herself, looking around at her siblings. They appeared to be breathing, but it was as if none of them could hear the screaming.

She quickly slipped on her worn-out Nike tennis shoes, pulled her hair into a messy ponytail, and set out into the night. in her pajamas.

As she neared the creek, the volume ascended in Annabeth's ears, causing her to lose her balance and trip on a rock. She fell face forward and bit the dust. For a moment, the screaming in her ears stopped, and a sense of relief rushed over the daughter of Athena. But it did not last. Almost immediately, her head was once again throbbing with the unbearable noise.

Still, she stood up and looked at the sky and prayed a silent prayer to her mother, asking for guidance and wisdom. Her fuzzy pajama pants were muddy and her old faded camp shirt was slightly wet, but she continued to find the source of the screaming.

Once she reached the edge of the woods, she sensed that she had come incredibly close to the source of the sound. Annabeth continued her short midnight quest until she reached Zeus' fist.

'Oh-my-gods-oh-my-gods-oh-my-gods-!' The unprepared demigod shouted in her mind when she saw what was waiting. A fury. And all she had was a flimsy pocket knife. She was most certainly unprepared.

Annabeth looked up at the horrendous monster and quickly thought of a strategy.

The fury screeched and jumped at Annabeth. She sidestepped and drove her pocket knife into its dark bat wing. She dove towards the pile of rocks and jumped onto it, preparing for the fury to come rushing back. It flew towards Annabeth- a little wobbly -and grabbed her by her shoulders, pulling her up into the sky.

Annabeth held her breath and looked around her. If only she could get to one of the trees...

The monster was soon unable to hold Annabeth up anymore and dropped her. She reached out and grabbed a hefty tree branch, then pulled herself up onto it. She was running out of strength, and though she would never admit it to anyone, she needed help.

Annabeth looked around, her head pounding, feeling the rush of adrenaline. Though she didn't have much of a chance to make a new plan, because the fury came towards her like a battering ram, knocking her out of the tree. As they both fell- about ten feet -the blonde stabbed the fury in its chest and it exploded into a giant puff of dust.

Two Days Later

Annabeth opened her eyes to see Will Solace and Percy Jackson standing on the other side of the infirmary.

"Will, please just let me see her-" Percy started and looked over at Annabeth to see her eyes wide open. "Annabeth!" he shouted and rushed to her bedside- despite Will's disapproval.

"What happened?" He asked, grabbing her hand.

Annabeth tried to speak, but her throat was incredibly dry. She coughed and grinned. "Long story, actually," she said and looked to Will, a silent request for help. He brought over a cup of nectar with a bright blue straw along with a white plate of ambrosia squares.

Between sips of nectar, Annabeth told them the story, in full, and by the time she reached the end, she was feeling better and turned to stand. Percy and Will were speechless. Annabeth started walking to the door, and very wobbly, she walked out the door into the night, her head finally clear.
