It's the long awaited finale, folks! Sorry for the long wait— I have a tendency to do that, but hopefully the surprise updates make up for it.
In other news, you (probably) won't be shocked to find out I have another two projects in the works! One in particular has taken priority for the time being, but it should near completion soon enough. There's a note at the bottom on these oh-so-special surprises, so if you're interested in helping, don't hesitate to read it!

A hacking cough broke free from my lips. Liquid, hot and thick, formed on my tongue. I spit the blood out with a wrenching hack. The floor was dyed red. It was almost kin to a field of roses, beautiful and intricate. Only it's not. My blurry vision was failing. Black set in around the edges.
In the very corner of the room laid my captors. Their sick laughter filled my brain, forcing a numb helplessness into my muscles. I couldn't move if I wanted to. Not after what they had put me through. Pain ricocheted up my chest as another boot came down on my damaged ribs. Air fled my lungs.
"Hmph. Not much fun today, are you?" The man asked, leaning back to survey my crippled body.
Not for you, I wanted to spit. Not when you're around. The words died in my throat. Defiance would bring me nothing. My captor sighed, rearing his leg back to deliver another powerful blow. A resounding CRACK! rang through my stone cell. Fire trickled into my veins, and tears welled in my eyes.
"Alright, let's go," the man stated, waving a hand in boredom. "She's not gonna do shit anyways."
The cell closed with a light click. Only once they left did I surrender. A void blankness settled over my eyes, enveloping me into the soft mercy of unconsciousness. It was only when I was asleep that a smile finally molded my lips.
"Erik."
The man whipped around at my voice. His face broke into a wide grin, arms opening. I didn't hesitate to throw myself into them.
He was so warm, so cozy. Erik felt like home, safety, protection. His arms closed around me in a snug embrace. The pain seemed to fade away, slipping into nothingness. It was with him that I felt whole again.
"How are you doing?" Erik lightly tilted my face upwards, pulling it away from his chest. He gently turned my head from side to side.
"I'm fine," I responded in earnest. Now that I was with him again, I was okay again.
The wizard sighed, smiling down at me endearingly. I returned the gesture with one of my own. My face buried itself into his chest once more. He chuckled at the action.
"So, how are you really?" Cobra finally asked. "Whenever you're not with me?"
My muscles stiffened. Of course he could tell. Erik always caught everything, no matter how small. He could read minds after all. I delayed answering, instead listening to his heartbeat. It was soothing.
"I don't know how much longer I can hold out," I admitted, voice cracking around the edges. "It all hurts... so bad."
Cobra ran soothing circles over the small of my back. I heard his heartbeat begin to taper off, fading into silence. A sad smile lit my face.
"It's so pathetic, isn't it?" I asked despondently. My hands tangled into his shirt. It was so light, almost akin to air. "That the only way I can cope is pretending that you're here?"
Cobra didn't answer. His hand continued to comfort my back, rubbing light circles onto the skin. My face tightened in an attempt to hold back the tears.
