Chapter Four

"Jun Myeon hyung. Seok Jin hyung. It's me, Nam Joon. Can you open the door please? I want to ask some question."

Nam Joon knocked on the door twice before announce himself in front of the door. After a few seconds later, he can hear someone answering from inside the room and then Seok Jin opened the door.

"Come in. Jun Myeon hyung is not around. He went to meeting."

"Oh, I just want to ask about Ruby. Is it okay with hyung?"

"Ah, yes. Let's talk at the table there. Do you want some juice?"

"Can do. So, about her abduction case few years back, what actually happen that time? Do you know hyung?"

Seok Jin stops for a few seconds before continue take the juice and walked towards Nam Joon. Seok Jin sat in front of Nam Joon and take a few breaths before talk to him.

"You want to know the whole story or only what happen to Ruby?"

"If can, the whole story. Because I want to know how to help Ruby to stop her nightmare."

Nam Joon keep looking inside the files as he talking to Seok Jin. Then, he looked at Seok Jin before put the files in front of Seok Jin.

"There's nothing much inside this file and I feel that there's more to it."

Seok Jin looked at Nam Joon, trying to read the sincerity of his intention, before continue talking.

"Okay. First, do you know case that happen in US, 11 years ago where a Korean Scientist was killed together with her son and daughter?"

"Don't tell me..."

"Yes, and the Korean Scientist was our director biological sister. Her name was Sara Sung."

"21 years ago, Sara's biological daughter died in a plane crash together with her husband. After their death, Sara stays at US because her son need to finished his education there."

"So she takes over our technology laboratory there since there's a case of power abuse on using children as a test subject. On her second week there, they rescued all the children that had been cage under the basement of the centre."

Nam Joon continue listening to Seok Jin but he still cannot believe that Ruby is the sole survivor of the case. A very famous case that shock the whole country.

"Her son, who that time was on school holiday, were helping her to save those children. But they were too late because the culprit keeps delaying the interrogation which resulted the rescue program intended for those child, failed."

"From hundreds of children was taken for his sick experiments, only few of them are lucky. Because of their body already weak, many of them died because of malnourishment."

Seok Jin take a few deep breaths before continue his story.

"From the few, her son saves one little girl, who that time was the same age as her little sister."

Nam Joon looked at Seok Jin.

"And that girl was Ruby."

Seok Jin nodded before continue.

"Yes, that girl was Ruby. When her son, Daniel, save that girl, she looked like a broken robot. No expression at all even at that time, she has one big wound on leg."

"They suspect that, from the wound, the girl wants to escaped but fail. When Sara cleaned and bandage the wound, she just stares blankly towards the air in front of her. No indication that she was in pain or anything."

Seok Jin stands up and walked towards his fridge and take a bottle of water while continue his story.

"At the rehabilitation centre, the girl only does what people asked her to. The nurse there told her to eat, then she eats. If she was told to sleep, she will sleep. Just like robot."

Seok Jin walked back towards Nam Joon and sat in front of him.

"No expression nor feeling came from her. People there starts to call her 'The Robot Girl'. She also doesn't even speak. People thought that she was mute."

Nam Joon remember the blank expression of Ruby during her 'rest' time. She will become like that again if he doesn't help her.

"But Daniel keep coming every day to bring the little girl out. He tried almost everything to make the girl smile."

"One day, in front of Sara, Daniel succeed to make the little girl smile. Looking at the lovely scene, Sara decided to adopt the girl and give her name, Ruby."

"Nam Joon-ah, do you know what Daniel did that make her smile?"

"He make a joke?"

"No, he just dances. Daniel was a dancer. He likes to dance and Ruby likes to watch her brother dance. She said her brother was very cool and very charismatic. So the next day, Sara bring Ruby home."

"Since then, after school, Daniel will take the liberty to teach his little sister. So first lesson he decides to teach her was language. So he teaches Ruby Korean and English."

"Since they thought that she was mute, he starts by writing it down and later he will show it to Ruby the meaning of the word. But the first words coming her was, 'Daniel'. Maybe because she always heard people calling him that."

Before Seok Jin continues his story, Jun Myeon enter the room.

"Oh, Nam Joon-ah. You're here. Come on, let's go. We have meeting right now. It's already 9pm."

"Already? I lost track of time."

"Maybe we continue after meeting? This time let Jun Myeon continue the story."

"What story?"

"Meeting first, hyung."

Seok Jin walked out from the room and Jun Myeon just stare at Seok Jin. Then he looked at Nam Joon.

"About Ruby. Let's go to meeting first, hyung."
