The world is in chaos, earth crackling and spitting out horrid screams in the lonely day that calls out to the shadows. Morgana's laughter echoes through my heart and cuts the wound open again after all these years and silently whispers, "I'm coming for you, brother."
Arthur wakes with sweat trickled down the back of his neck. Panting, almost breathless as Merlin walks into the room, afraid that Arthur was ill, " Arthur, are you alright? You look pale, as if you saw a ghost." Maybe Arthur did see a ghost, he saw Morgana as she whispered his name with hatered, and loathing. Arthur looks back into Merlin's eyes, terror in them as if he is lost. He is lost, lost in a world that isn't his. One that is different, but only to the point that you are looking at it with longing for the past.
"I know, I miss the way it was too. I miss polishing your armour, the smell of the forests that we travelled in, the way the air was cleaner, and the sky brighter." Merlin goes to sit down beside Arthur. "I want to have what is normal to me back." Arthur's voice cracks a little, finding that he now remembers Gwen, Leon, Gaius, Mordred. Mordred, as the sword pierced my heart, and Merlin carrying me to the lake.
"What happened to Gwen? Did she marry again, please Merlin I must know." Arthur looks helplessly at Merlin. "She had a child, she was about 23 week's pregnant with a giggling little girl. She was named after your mother." Merlin says with great pain in his voice. "A child." The sound of disbelief in Arthur's voice was true agony. His wail was almost unbearable. Arthur breaks and cries as the realization of not being there for Gwen or his new born child. Merlin holds him and this makes him cry out in more pain as he slowly falls back onto the bed and goes to sleep. Dreaming of what would have happened if he lived.
