Summary: When Tyler's only daughter goes on her first date, the retired player and his family follow her secretly, which makes their night quickly becomes eventful.

Claire rushed down the stairs with a giggle as soon as the doorbell rang, snapping you out of your own daydream. Tyler stood up from the couch, and you heard your older son's footsteps coming from his room, his long time girlfriend right in tow.

Tyler grabbed your newborn son, Michael, from your arms, his free hand resting on your smaller back as you two joined your daughter and the barking dogs in the entry hall. You had never seen Claire that happy, her eyes almost shut as she smiled at the boy that walked inside the Seguin household.

You and Tyler had watched Jamie and Claire grow, going from tiny babies just like Michael to teenagers in what seemed like days, right in front of your own eyes. Jamie was seventeen, ready to go into his senior year in just a few months, playing hockey just like his father did and already having a place set in the NHL. Claire was close to becoming fifteen,'the most intelligent young lady I've ever met, just like her mother', as Tyler liked to say.

She stood in the doorway, all dolled up for her real first date with the most popular guy in her High School, looking at him as if he was her soulmate. You felt Tyler stiffen beside you, his arm tightening on your side as he gave his daughter's date, Jacob, a once-over.

"Hi, Mr. Seguin," Jacob said, sticking his hand out calmly to shake Tyler's. "Mrs. Seguin, it's great to meet ya,"

You smiled at the teenager, noticing how Claire was glaring at her father for not giving her date a proper response. Jamie looked from the staircase, his jaw clenching as he sent you a small shake of the head. He didn't like the guy.

"Jacob, right?" Tyler asked, patting Michael's back when he started fussing, swaying softly to calm him back to sleep. He received a firm nod from the teenager, making your husband scoff softly. "Jacob, my daughter is expected home by nine,"

"Dad!"

"Tyler, her curfew rounds to ten," You scolded him, rolling your eyes before looking back at the boy, smiling softly. "Have fun, guys!"

"But not too much fun-" Tyler said, being interrupted by Claire's dirty glare as she closed the front door behind herself, Jamie scoffing loudly.

"I can't believe she's going out with that asshole," your older son said, shaking his head as he sat down on the couch, his girlfriend Jess following him. "A football player!"

"Language, Jamie Miles Seguin," you scolded him with a pointed finger as you let Tyler pass Michael to you, who needed to be fed. "Perhaps, he is a good guy,"

"He's not," Jamie mumbled, letting Jess lean against his side. "I've seen him break hearts before,"

Tyler had been uncharacteristically silent, looking out of the window with his brows furrowed. You had talked before, and he had shown you how hard it was for him to let his baby girl go, especially because of the strong bond they had built during those fifteen years. It had become hard for him to see her grow so much, so quickly, and he felt like she was going to leave him already.

"Ty?" you whispered, hugging him from behind as best as you could as you fed Michael, kissing his shoulder and snapping him out of his thoughts. "What's going on in that big head of yours?"

There was a beat before he spoke. "Can we follow them?"

"Tyler Paul Seguin-"

"Yeah, can we follow them, mom?" Jamie said with the smirk he had definitely taken from his father. "Nobody trusts that guy. Did you hear how aggressive the dogs got when he walked inside?"

You rolled your eyes, sharing a look with Jess before you stared back at your boys. "We're doing this just because I love you too much," you said, Jamie erupting in a fit of exults as he stood up from the couch. "But we're not getting out of the car until I say so. Am I clear?"

"Yes, ma'am," Jamie mumbled, fist-bumping his father before you all started to get ready, walking towards the car. Your older son and Jess were squished in the back of the car, Michael's carrier taking over part of the backseat as the baby slept peacefully.

You reached the diner where Claire and Jacob decided to spend their date, Tyler sighing in relief when he saw his daughter through the floor-to-ceiling windows. She was looking around the place, no trace of her date in front of her.

Your husband's leg bounced as he saw the scene unfold in front of him. "He probably went to the bathroom," you whispered to him, sliding your hand on his thigh to calm him down. "Let's just wait a few more minutes,"

But, as you waited, Jacob didn't seem to come back. Claire's distress was evident as the waitress came to their table to write down their order, and it was clear she was trying to hold back her tears as she asked for a few more minutes.

"Okay, I'm going in-"

"Wait!" Jess said from the back, pointing at the sidewall of the diner, where Jacob and some of his friends stood. They were laughing, pointing at the building and punching Jacob on the shoulder, almost seeming as if they were congratulating him. "Oh my God, I can't believe this!"

The group cautiously tried to leave the building as you looked in shock, the sound of the back door opening was faint as you tried not to tear up. Jamie sprinted out of the car, and you were sure that if he was on the ice, his gloves would have already been dropped. Tyler left the car soon after, walking quickly inside of the diner as Jamie approached the group.

Jess sighed when he landed the first punch, stepping out of the car with a small: 'I'll take care of Jamie' and leaving you and Michael on your own inside of the vehicle. You did the only thing that crossed your mind, which was grabbing your baby as quickly as you could and join Tyler and your daughter.

She was sobbing against her father's chest, tears staining his shirt as he silently ran a hand through her hair.

"Oh, baby," you whispered, leaning down to kiss her forehead as you sat down next to Tyler. "I'm so sorry,"

She sobbed again, wiping her tears with the back of her hand before sniffling, leaning back into her seat. "Hey, mom,"

"You wanna go home, pumpkin?" Tyler asked her, kissing the top of her head another time. "We got that ice cream that you like, and we could watch Dirty Dancing in our pajamas together, if you want,"

"Can we have dinner here? I heard they have cheeseburgers just the way we like them," she smiled, letting her hand graze Michael's cheek as she waited for a response.

"Of course, baby," you whispered, sighing as soon as Jamie and Jess got inside the diner. Your son had a black eye, his lip lightly busted as he slumped in front of his sister.

"What happened to you?" Claire giggled, noticing how the people around you started giving him dirty glares.

"I just fought for you, so be thankful," he said, downing a glass of water. "And you should have seen how he looked,"

You chuckled, ruffling his hair as Tyler patted him on the back. "Totally learned from the best,"

"Can we still have that ice cream when we get home, though?" Claire asked, thanking the waitress when her burger was brought over. The glimmer in her eyes made it impossible to say no to her, and before you knew it, you were nodding your head in approval.

"We might hear from the guy's parents, though," you giggled as you thought about the events of the night again, shaking your head as you dipped a fry in some ketchup.

"You don't mess with a hockey player," Tyler smirked cockily, the same smirk you'd learned to love throughout the years of your relationship. "And I have lawyers,"

"Dad, please, no,"

"Tyler!"
