Chapter 5: The necklace

Kris's PoV

I'm on my way to the headquarters, I need to talk to Lilly, I can't believe she's doing this to me,   at least she should have asked my opinion before deciding to close the case, my case, the one I've been working so hard on, the one that had cost me many sleepless nights and arguments with my mom and co-workers, the one that I think I just found something big about, this lead, the necklace, the written stuff that was hidden with magic on the walls. This can't be over, I know there's something beyond our comprehension, and I bet my life that the person who confessed to be the leader is just another lackey.

The department is full of people; agents, rapers, murderers, prostitutes, victims... It is so crowded and loud in here. I spot Sean, he's looking around nervously, like looking for someone, suddenly he stands up and in that moment I realize that he was looking for me.

— Man, she's in her office wating for you, don't loose your cool. — said Sean a bit preocupied.

— Lost it already.

I keep walking until I met her office door. I open it suddenly without knocking, and I see her there, sitting on a comfortable office chair, with her feet up on the table and her head resting on the back of the chair.

— LILLY!! — I yelled outrageous.

— Lilly? For you it is Captain Russell, don't be disrespectful, I am your boss. — she said, and I got even more furious. I walk fast towards her desk and put my hand on her desk with a bang.

— Cut the crap! How dare you closing my case without consulting me! I found more evidence in the crime scene! — I said as I realized that she wasn't looking at me, her face was facing down and her fists where tight. She slowly stands up and looks at me directly in my eyes, she's furious.

— Your case? Alright. Your case has cost us thousands of Krams, five dead officers and OUR relationship... I don't care about your stupid evidence! I AM closing the case because we've got the leader under custody, stop acting like a stupid child!

— Oh, I see — I said — You're making this personal, aren't you? You are still so immature that you want to take revenge by closing the case. You always need everything to go your way, bravo Lilly. — As I finished my sentence, she grabs me by my shirt and closes the gap between our faces. Her beautiful green eyes are looking at me with hatred... I can smell her shampoo, how nostalgic... I still remember the day we met, almost three years ago; I was newbie here, and she was the first thing I saw when entering the office; her eyes, her dark caramel skin, and long curly hair, so wild but at the same time so calm, I was amazed, she is older than me, I was 21 at that time and she was 26, but we didn't care about that we made each other happy, until this case apeared... Now those are just bitter memories.

— I said, it is Captain Russell for you! And no, this is not personal! I'm closing it because it is over, we have the leader, and also, because I can, and you cannot do anything about it! Get it!? — She lets her hand off me. I bite my inter part of my mouth and my fists are tight, I have to control myself.

— Fine — I said angered as I turn around and walk towards the door to go to my desk.

— Oh! Detective Cross — She said

— What now?— I said without turning in her direction.

— You are suspended until further notice and use that time to learn how to be respectful to your superiors.— She said, and that's how my plan of going to my desk changed for the new plan, going home and drink beer as I curse her a thousand times.

I'm on my way home... I'm still upset, really upset, lucky me I have a six-pack in the fridge. I promised Sean we were going to drink together today but right now I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone.
The necklace is still in my pocket... I take it out and I hang it on the car's rear view mirror - I think I have no use for you anymore - I think as I see my sister waiting for the bus at the bus stop. Not in the mood for people today but, I'm not gonna leave my sister there waiting if I'm here and I can give her a ride.

I pull over and lower the car's window. I see my sister standing there, her eyes are closed, but in a weird way, like " I just saw a ghost" way... She opens them and looks at me surprised, what's going on with her...? Whatever, not in the mood.

— Need a ride home?

— Yeah... Thank you.— she answers and and gets in the car sitting in the passenger seat, she looks disoriented or worried...? maybe because of the pills, mom told me the medication she's taking has side effects...

— What's going on with your face?— I ask. Even though I have my own stuff to think about, she's my little sis, I get worried...

— I could ask you the same thing — She answers fast, as if she doesn't want me to know, like a programmed answer, she's just like me.

— Yeah, well... I got suspended. — I try not to sound too hurt.

— Ha ha ha ha ha ha— she laughs out loud— I bet you made Lilly angry

— Shut up!— I say and I see my sister suddenly looking somewhere else... She's looking at the necklace hanged on the rear view mirror. She stretches her arm to get the necklace, takes it of the mirror and looks at it with the same surprised face she had five minutes ago when I saw her at the bus stop.

— I've seen this before — When this words came out of her mouth an anger filled my body. Out of a blood rush to my head I grab her hand with violence and I hold tight.

— WHERE!?
