I had a really good time at Brightside today...I haven't stopped smiling. But Shawn seemed a little irritated when Jack came in to study.
Bit weird
___
The first thing I did when I got that text from Shawn nearly a week ago was pound on Ella's door until she opened up. She gave me a murderous glare, but when I shoved my phone into her face, her eyes lit up like London's skyline at night.
After she pulled me into her room, and we jumped around like seven-year-olds at a sleepover, I explained to her how Operation Sketchbook went a little off plan. Who cares, Mick––Ella squeezed my hands in excitement––He texted you and now you have his number.
The day after Shawn texted me, I returned to Brightside, and he seemed a bit more shy. Almost as if having more contact with me outside of the coffee shop was something that made him nervous. I also received a bit more teasing from Niall than usual for the rest of the week. Luckily there was no Lola.
If I wasn't at Brightside, or in class, I was texting Shawn. And it seemed as if whenever Shawn wasn't at work (even if he was working), he would be texting me.
Our text conversations were like our conversations face-to-face, except without my rambling. We would ask each other about our days, I would text him about how much I didn't want to go to my literature class as I waited outside the lecture hall, and he would text me when he was waiting for the tube to get back to his place.
Sometimes he even texted me while I was at my usual table at Brightside to ask if I needed a refill on coffee.
"So," Jack looked at the door to the coffee shop and then looked at me with his eyebrows raised high, "This is the famous Brightside?"
I nodded eagerly, excited to show him my little safe haven, "The one and only."
He hummed in response as he took one of his hands out from his gray sweatshirt pocket––the same one that he let me borrow after we played soccer––to open the door, "I expect this to be the best coffee in London."
I laughed as the bell chimed above the door, "You won't be disappointed."
Jack laughed next to me as he closed the door and both of our heads whipped to the counter when we heard a Canadian accent call out my name.
"McLane!"
I smiled exceptionally bright, but I noticed a falter in Jack's smile.
I cheerily walked up to the counter, not feeling as nervous around Shawn since we've been texting, and waved, "Shawn, Hi! How was getting off early last night?"
It looked like he was going to say something, but I noticed that Shawn's eyes were sizing up the boy next to me. I sneaked a glance at Jack and noticed that he crossed his arms over his chest, slightly leaning into my side. They'd never met each other before, but from how they were glaring at each other, it was almost as if they were sworn enemies at birth.
Luckily, I didn't have to break the tension because a yellow cup hit Shawn on the side of his head.
Shawn broke eye contact with Jack and now glared at Niall, "Ow?"
"It's paper," Niall threw another cup at him, "You'll live." Shawn glared at Niall more, but he was unfazed, and continued to talk, "It's been a few days since we've seen your lovely face, McLane." Niall rolled his eyes and jabbed a thumb over toward Shawn, "He thought you found another coffee shop...again."
