I tried to calm the child knowing if I ran the outcome would be much worse.
"I want mommy!" He was screaming, any animal in 1200 meters could hear him.
"Okay okay! Well go find mom but you have to stop screaming okay !?"
The kid sniffled and nodded.
Wow I just told this kid I'd find his mom, he's from a pack, I'm rouge.
'Your dead.'
'Ugh'
"Help find mom now?"
I nodded, he put his hands up so I obliged and picked him up. Yeah not my brightest move I know.
'No shit'

"What way did you come from?"
"That one," he pointed to behind us.
'Hey dumbass.'
'What!?'
'Smell..'
Huh? I took a very deep breath, I smelled everything,
'My senses!'
I smiled and started walking in the direction of the boys scent.
"Yay gonna see mommy!"
"Yes yes but shhh, you can't tell them I brought you okay?"
I looked at him hoping he'd understand.
"Why?"
"Cause your mommy will be mad you ran away so you can tell her you found your way back all by yourself!"
"Oh yeah! Okay!"
He put out his pinky and I obliged to the promise of silence.
"I don't think you're gonna have to worry about him." A voice came from behind me.
"Fuck."
"Shh no bad words!" Cute kid, but they might be my last words ever.

•Maze's mates pov•. (Takes place when maze got punched)

"Excuse me."
"You're excused."
I almost laughed, no one ever stood up to Maria like that. She's got balls.
Then Maria swung. I was going to stop her because the kid was human but when she hit the ground her eyes turned ember and her canines grew excessively.
'Mate.'
Who was that? Where are they?
Then I looked at the girl again and the world stopped spinning.
"Mate."
The girls were shocked and rightfully so, we never smelled wolf on her, how did she hide it so well?
"Her seriously?" Maria scoffed
"Congratulations b" Lydia clapped and then when I looked back to my mate, she was gone.
"Oh a chase!" Maria laughed, but I ran. I had never run so fast in my life but I never did catch up to her.
The girls were a little behind but when they caught up they asked why I didn't follow her scent.
"It's gone."
The were all confused and actually, so was I.
"Name, find it."
"Yes alpha."

'Maze'
'5 more minutes'
Then I remembered the happenings of the day and spring out of the bed I was later in.
"Bed? I expected a dungeon."
Ran to the window and tried to open it but it was locked with a padlock.
"So it is a dungeon.."
"No, it's a bedroom. Though I had a feeling you'd run again."
I turned around to see the beautiful popular girl from this morning.
'Mate!'
'Shut it!'
The pretty girl twitched and paisley noticed.
'Hello?'
The girl looked around her, paranoid probably.
'Mate?'
She looked at me this time and I mentally slapped Paisley.
"Do you hear her?"
"Ugh if only I didn't"
She sighed, probably thought she was crazy.
"Wait! How the fuck do you hear her?"
"Cause she's speaking, anyway we're is she I couldn't find her."
'Right here love.'
'Paisley I swear I will cut you off.'
Now the girl looked really confused.
I smelled and realized I was in the pack house, the one the boy smelled like.
"You seem panicked." I jumped at her words then looked behind her, the door was open.
I bolted. Obviously paisley wasn't gonna run so looks like I can't wolf my way out, but I'm fast so I easily waived past her frame.
"Not again!"
I chuckled,
'Ha loser.'
Then I ran into a wall, of people.
"I'm prepared this time my puppy."
"Not a puppy and not yours."
Paisley was never a fan of feeling trapped so she asked to front and I granted all permission.
My bones cracked and reshaped.
"Wow." The girl who's name I still do not know.
Then paisley ran, fast and forward.
"Catch her."
'You catch me, mate.' Paisley taunted.
'If you insist.'
Oh she figured it out, smart.
Then in seconds paisley was being gained on by a beautiful black wolf.
'Found you.'
'Oh ya got me.'
Then paisley rolled to the ground. And later on her back.
'What's your name?'
'I'm paisley, though I'm not who you were talking to in the room. That's maze.'
'I'm confused'
'As you should be.'

After paisley felt safe enough to give me control again I explained everything to her.
"So you're Maze?"
"Yes and you are?" I was curious to know her name and what she meant when she called me 'mate'
"I'm Lucinda."
Lucinda, that sounded so perfect.
'Mate.'
Lucinda twitched again.
"So you really can hear her."
"I guess so. Hey why did you run?"
"What?"
"When I called you my mate in the school yard."
"Simple, you were all loud and I didn't like it." I didn't know how to tell her I don't understand what mates are.
'She doesn't know what mates really are.'
Okay paisley doesn't have a problem embarrassing me.
Lucinda let out a breath she was holding in. I looked at her confused and she finally smiled.
"So you weren't rejecting me!" She fell to her back on the grass and sighed.
"Rejection?"
"Okay, let me explain what mates are so this conversation will go less confusingly for you."
I nodded I was eager to learn about mates I don't really care who it's from, plus she makes me feel calm.
'That's because she's your mate.'
'Yeah but your the only one that feels that.'
Lucinda looked at me with what I can only describe as puppy dog eyes.
"You can't feel the that were mates?" She looked like her whole world was about to collapse.
"Technically no, but I feel calm around you and every time you touch my I get those little electric shocks."
So I explained what happened with me and paisley, and Lucinda told me everything about mates.
"So how do you feel when your with me? Wait no I shouldn't ask that." I got kind of flustered after asking such and embarrassing question.
"No it's fine, it's kinda like all my life I was searching for one thing, something I could never get my hands on then when I found it, it was more then I ever could have hoped for, like my world stopped spinning and you were the only person who could make it turn."
She looked at me shocked and I realized that I was crying.
"What happened, I'm sorry I didn't mean to say something that hurt you." She scooted closer to me and I lunged into her arms.
'She's not upset because of something you said. She's upset because she can't tell you she feels the same.'
"Maze, I understand why you don't feel it please don't be sad."
I didn't want to talk, sitting in her arms made me feel calm and happy.
'Lucinda, maze can't hear me right now. But I have something to tell you.'
'I'm listening.'
Lucindas eyes were glazed over so I assumed she was talking to paisley since I can't hear either of them and paisley never shuts up.
'Rude.'
'Speak of the devil am I right'
Lucinda chuckled and my heart skipped a beat.
'See that could be the mate bond, or just you falling for her.'
'Paisley!'
Lucinda looked at me shocked, I was embarrassed so I asked paisley to front,  my bones started cracking again but since I have gotten a little more used to transforming it hurt less.
Lucinda pulled paisley in and kissed her forehead.

I wonder if when she thinks of her mate she thinks of me or paisley.
