Zuko's Soulmate

Chapter Six

" What's an Agni Kai?" I looked to Iroh " It's a fight between Prince Zuko and Commander Zhao, it can be very dangerous" he explained and I nodded. We all walked onto the ship deck and walked to one side of the ship, Zuko had his shirt off and I couldn't help but blush slightly. " Remember your basics Zuko, they are all you need" Iroh coached him " Why don't we make this a little more interesting Prince Zuko" Zhao spoke up " How so?" " Whoever wins will get the glory of capturing the Avatar, but they'll also get the girl". " What?!" I asked shocked " She isn't part of this!" Zuko yelled " It was only a thought" he grinned. I walked over to Zuko and placed my hand on his face " Don't let him get to you, that hot head of yours is your down fall. Control your anger" " How am I meant to do that?" He asked. I pressed my lips against his and felt this electric feeling between us, when I pulled away I smiled at his face.

I stood back and watched as the two fire nation men fought, both men trying to out do the other one. " Your basics Prince Zuko, your basics!" Iroh yelled, suddenly Zuko was winning the fight. He slowly but surely caught Zhao off guard and forced him into the ground. Zuko stood over him in his fighting stance victories to the middle aged fire commander. Zuko shot beside his head and turned his back to him, I quickly ran over to hug him but found Zhao trying to burn Zuko while his back was turned. I felt this sudden rage inside of me and jumped in front of Zuko and forced my hands to push the fire to the right, into the sky.

Everyone stared at me in shock " H-how is that possible?" Commander Zhao asked " Kala how did you do that?" Zuko asked " Do what?" " You can fire bend" " I what?" I looked down a my hands and noticed there were no new burns. " I can fire bend?" I asked myself " We can figure that out later" Iroh said, " But for now, you are a disgrace Zhao. Waiting for your opponents back to be turned before striking, your a disgrace to the fire nation" he took Zuko and I and left the ship. I stood on deck and looked out at the sun set " Thank you" I turned my head to Zuko " For saving me" " I couldn't let him hurt you" " Why? You haven't seem to be too fond of me" " Well you did kidnap me Zuko" I laughed.

I noticed Zuko staring at me with a small smile " What?" " I've never heard you laugh before, it's cute" I blushed suddenly. " I guess it's been a while, I haven't laughed since the day before you arrived. Sokka-" I stopped suddenly remembering my old boyfriend. " Sokka? He's the boy that went with the Avatar?" Zuko asked " Yeah, he was my boyfriend" " You're boyfriend?!" I laughed " He did the same thing when I told him my soul mate was a prince". " Is that why you don't like me? Because your with him?" " No, Sokka and I broke up the day you came. We both knew it was better to break up then since he would be finding his soulmate soon too". " Have you ever been able to fire bend before?" " No, I don't know how that's even possible. My mother was from the South Pole" " What about your father?" I sighed " I don't know who my father is" " How come?" " My mother told me he left before the war started, before she found out she was pregnant with me, and she never told him".

" I'm sorry Kala" Zuko put his hand on my shoulder " It's okay, I can't lose what I never had". " Yeah I guess" " What about your parents?" " What about them?" " Are they both alive?" " I hope so. My mother suddenly disappeared when I was just a kid, my sister used to tease me about it" " You have a sister?" " Yeah, Azula she's fourteen". " I never actually asked how old you were" " I'm almost seventeen, you?" " I just turned sixteen". It was quiet for a few moments but it was a comfortable silence " You look really pretty" I turned my head to him " In fire nation clothes, and your um hair..you look very pretty" he said getting flustered making me laugh. I hit his arm with my elbow and rested my head against his arm. Together we stood there in silence and peace, both with smiles stuck on our faces.

The next morning I sat on deck with Iroh for breakfast, I smiled as I sat down " Good morning Kala" " Good morning Iroh, where's Zuko?" " He's meditating in his room, told us he didn't want to be disturbed by anyone" I nodded my head " So what tea do you have for us this morning?" I smiled " Jasmine your favourite" he smiled as he poured some for me. " You know, you both make a really good couple" " Huh?" " I haven't seen my nephew this at peace since his banishment" " But I haven't done anything" " I saw you two last night, talking and joking together. It's the first time I've seen him genuinely smile in years. You are brining him down the right path Kala, he just needs to realise it".

" General Iroh" a solider bowed " We have no idea where the Avatar has gone, we've lost his trace" " This isn't good. Thank you I will deliver the message personally to my nephew". I followed Iroh through a few corridors till we were outside Zuko's room, Iroh knocked on the door and opened it " The only reason you should be interrupting me is if you have news about the avatar" " Well there's news prince Zuko, but you might not like it, don't get too upset" " Uncle, you taught me that keeping a level head is a sign of a great leader. Now, whatever you have to say, I'm sure I can take it". " We have no idea where he is" Iroh said, the candles in front of Zuko grew huge as he let his anger out " What?" He jumped up as Iroh pulled out a fan " You really should open a window in here". I held in a laugh as I stared at the two family members, " How am I going to find him uncle? He is clearly a master of evasive manoeuvring" " Let me see that" I said as I stood next to Zuko and stared down at all the different points on the map, once it hit me I couldn't stop laughing. " What's so funny?" Zuko yelled only making me laugh harder " He-he" I took a deep breath but only laughed more at Zuko's angry face.

" If you know something tell us" Iroh said and I nodded " He told me his plan before he left" " What?" " He isn't a master at anything" I laughed " He had a bucket list he wants to do before he starts training, every spot you've tracked him is just him tricking it off his list". Zuko and Iroh's faces dropped  " What?!" Iroh started laughing with me " At least he's got his priorities straight, now come Zuko it is time for your training". Zuko sighed " Fine" " Can I watch?" I asked " Watch? Oh no Kala, you'll be joining us" Iroh smiled before walking up deck with Zuko. I ran after them " What?" I stopped next to Zuko " You are a fire bender, and if you are not trained it could be very dangerous for yourself as well as those around you. Fire can be dangerous if not handled properly, so from now on you will be joining us for these lessons" I smiled and bowed " Thank you Iroh". " Now get in your fighting stance" Zuko got in position and I followed him, Iroh fixed my legs, making them hider and pulling my shoulders back " Now on the count of three I want to see you do the first basic move of fire bending. Kala follow Zuko" I nodded " One, two three!" Zuko did the love creating fire and I followed behind him creating a small amount of fire.

After half an hour of basic lessons Iroh broke us up, " Zuko you will do the next set over there while I help Kala" " Yes uncle" Zuko bowed before walking away. I bowed to Iroh " I'm sorry Iroh" " Do not apologise, I didn't except you to be able to produce much fire on your first try. That is why I am helping you" I nodded and got in position and followed Iroh's instructions carefully " Now do it again, again. Again, again!" He yelled as I did the steps again and again and again. As I did the steps I felt an energy run through me and as I did  the last step and I shot a bunch of fire out of my first. I looked at my hands in shock and turned to Iroh " I knew you could do it, now let's get some rest".
