Wildest Dreams

Chapter 24

The court is back in session and everyone is waiting patiently for the verdict to be read. I sit in the uncomfortable wooden chair, a deep breath held in my chest because if I let it go, I couldn't be held responsible for what would come out.

I want to have faith that I will be cleared as Spencer said, but deep down, I know there is not enough evidence in my favor. Spencer tried his hardest, and that's all I can ask of him.

Spencer.

He is sitting in the row behind me, but I can't turn around to look at him. We're supposed to be strangers; he is an impartial agent trying to do the right thing. He isn't the man that I have found myself inexplicably in love with after meeting in a dream.

"The jury has come to a unanimous decision", the judge starts.

Here it is. I will be walking out of this freezing building without my hands bound behind my back. I will go home with Spencer, wherever we decide home is. I'll be able to truly fall in love with him and live the happily ever after I have always dreamed of.

He's the king of my heart, and it's only a matter of time until I am crowned his queen.

"Y/n Y/l/n is found guilty of all charges and will serve twenty-to-life in federal prison."

Everything goes blank.

I vaguely register that I am being pulled to my feet and cuffed behind my back. The sound of Spencer's voice yelling my name echoes in my empty mind, but I do not have the thoughts to say anything back.

Goodbye, I love you, save me. Just say something.

All I can focus on is her. Everything else is dark, but she is in screaming color. Leora and her stupid, smug grin. This is her fault. She ruined my life, and now she is watching me get locked up for her crimes.

The worst is yet to come, and I guarantee I won't be the one in handcuffs with it gets here.
