Two months.

Two months since I left Nevada.

Two months of research into her case.

Two months of gathering evidence.

Two months of exchanging emails with her lawyers.

Two months since I had a good night's sleep.

Two months since I had dreamed of her.

Two months since I had seen her face.

But now it's time.

Her court hearing is this week, and I will be taking all of the new evidence I found in her favor to the defense. I will be put on the stand to explain the evidence and now I, a federal agent, became involved with this case.

I have everything set up for me in Nevada. I bought a personal laptop for my research and messaging with her lawyers because I didn't want to burden Garcia with this. No one else has an interest in this case besides me.

The last obstacle I have to overcome is getting Hotch to let me go.

I knock seven times on his heavy office door, the rhythm of my knuckles signaling it is me who is at the door. I hear a faint 'come in' from the other side and I push the door open.

"What can I do for you, Reid", he asks.

I take my bag off of my shoulder and lean it against the bottom of his desk before I sit down. I bounce my leg to expel some of my excess energy and I hope that my movements don't make the tremble in my voice more obvious. I practiced this speech in the mirror for three weeks, but no amount of preparation could change the fact that I am a terrible liar.

"I'm requesting some time off this week", I say with the best faux-confidence that I could muster.

"Are you going on vacation?", he asks.

"Kind of. I'm going to visit my mom for a couple of days. I got a call from her doctor saying that she started a new medication and is having a rough adjustment period. I hate that I'm here saving people while she is locked up there, probably scared out of her mind."

It wasn't a lie per-se, I do plan to visit my mom after the trial and hopefully introduce her to Y/n, but the part about the medication was untrue. Hotch seemed to buy it, though.

"Of course. Family is important and I'm glad to see that you visit her as often as you can. I hope Jack does the same for me someday", he smiles softly.

He takes his day planner from his drawer and flips to this month. He scribbles something that looks like Reid, Vegas and relief fills my chest.

I just lied to the Unit Cheif of the BAU and got away with it.

I thank him quickly before walking out of his office, not wanting to spend any more time with him in case I implicate myself. I walk to the elevator and take out my plane ticket. I scan all of my boarding information and commit it to memory so I won't have to worry about accidentally misplacing my boarding pass.

Ten hours until I get to Las Vegas.

Ten hours until I get to see her again.

Ten hours until I get to hold her in my arms for the first time.
