I ran towards the alleyway, glad I hadn't put on any of my millions of badges. Badges were stupid, they caught the light so easily. Less than a year ago we used to predict who would get the most. Now that I had tons of them, they felt like a burden. Everyone thought I was someone special. But honestly, I have no idea why the general picked me to come with him to Orynth, the Star Alliance's capital. And why the hell were we passing through Dead Space? Dead Space was the Out Spacers territory.
A high-pitched scream came from the alley, startling me into a run. Again, the few people who were out barely raised their heads.
I slowed to a hurried walk, I did not want to draw too much attention, and running towards a gunshot would definitely draw attention. And attention would make people look at me and recognize me. Nope. I did not need anyone stopping me right now.
When I arrived at the alley it was empty. Shit. Probably would have been better to run after all.
Luckily I spotted a blood trail. Whoever these people were, they definitely weren't the Star Forces. I knew that they made sure their enemies were comfortable and healthy. These people weren't even going to bother with bandaging the wound.
