Apparently, Joshua had his final class of the day with every single person that sat at their lunch table—even though they weren't all in the same grade. Jeonghan wasn't lying when he said they were all music buffs as well, because that particular class just happened to be music.
"Jisoo's here too!' Wonwoo had cooed when he sauntered into the classroom of which the volume inside could be heard from the hallway.
The brunette just did his infamous half-smile as he took a seat beside Jeonghan—the only open seat that was in the vicinity of the group. Not that he was complaining, though. He seemed to be the most bearable out of all the boys. Joshua would almost go as far as to say they clicked, but that would be a tad bit too excessive.
"Rough first day?" Jeonghan giggled as Jisoo slumped down in his seat.
"A little," the younger airily chuckled back. His day wasn't rough because of any particular happenings—other than being sucked into a noisy group of teenage boys—but he was simply tired, as most people are on their first day, especially in a new school.
"Understandable," the blonde grinned. "Do you like it here, though?"
Freaking small-talk, he groaned internally. Although his conscience loathed it, he found himself not being as disgusted by it coming from Jeonghan as he was from literally anyone else. "It's okay," he answered honestly. His experience here had been neither good nor bad—there was nothing strikingly polar that had happened today, though. In fact, his day had been quite boring—definitely none of that crazy cliche stuff, like getting bullied or flirted with on the first day.
"Definitely not as great as LA, right?"
Josh had forgotten that everyone has a grandiose image of Los Angeles, when in reality, it was quite average—to him, anyway. "Better, actually," he answered truthfully. He probably only thought that because he could escape from the repetitive place he had called home for his entire life, but either way, he felt like Korea was much more promising than his hometown.
"Oh, that's surprising," the older hummed. "Everyone acts like it's the place to be."
Joshua shrugged and turned his attention to the front. He could've explained how LA had just gotten old over the past couple of years, but he didn't feel like Jeonghan needed those types of details about him. The blonde should be lucky he even got some conversation, but the line draws at weird personal shit.
Speaking of weird personal shit. "Why did you move here, though?" Jeonghan asked without a second thought.
Jisoo felt himself tense up. He didn't want to answer that question, and he had no plans of doing so. "Um—"
As if a miracle were sent from heaven, their teacher entered the classroom, and everyone quieted down, leaving Joshua an excuse to cut their conversation short. Now, hopefully, it wouldn't get brought back up again.
"Good afternoon, kiddos. Most of you have had me in class before, but for those of you that haven't, I'm Mrs. Yang," the thin lady introduced with a smile.
Josh could tell she was one of those laid back, but still nurturing and effective teachers. This also meant she was immediately pinned as Joshua's favorite teacher. He hated teachers who were overly strict and uptight but likewise despised ones who were too carefree as if they themselves were students. Mrs. Yang seemed as if she was right in the middle—plus, she was a music teacher, which automatically gave her a few extra points in his book.
"First things first, I made this little questionnaire to get to know you guys a bit better, especially you newbies," she continued, picking up a stack of papers off her desk and beginning to pass them around to everyone. "I know you guys hate doing verbal introductions, so I think this is a nice alternative."
I think everyone could vouch for that. If Joshua would've had to give a self-introduction to the entire class, he might have just combusted.
He began working on the sheet as soon as it reached them, but he noticed Jeonghan not doing the same. Before he could even question it, he saw Jeonghan turn towards the rest of their little group.
"Which one of you dumb fucks stole my pencil? It's the first day, for Christ's sake!" he whisper-yelled, sending a glare to the other boys.
Joshua let out a tiny amused breath through his nose, refocusing on his work...until he realized it was not his pencil he was holding in his hand. Shit, that's awkward. After beating himself up internally for a few seconds, he cleared his throat and tossed the pencil onto Jeonghan's paper, successfully catching everyone's attention—which made him want to retract into himself.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Joshua," the older laughed. "You're not a dumb fuck."
The brunette didn't have time to say anything in return before Seungcheol quietly exclaimed, "Hey, why are you only mean to us? What has Jisoo ever done for you?" he playfully pouted.
"Yeah, but he's too nice for me to be mean to, so fuck you," Jeonghan retorted mischievously, poking his tongue out at the older boy.
Josh nearly scoffed. Him, nice? He was hardly anything of the sort. If anything, most people—including himself—would deem him nothing short of a dick. He was sure some of his new acquaintances felt the same, at least to some degree.
However, part of him was flattered that Jeonghan thought he was nice, even if he was just saying that to jab back at Seungcheol. That means the blonde was taking notice of his special treatment, at least to some extent. The boy may not have realized it was special treatment, per se, but he probably did notice that Jisoo wasn't a dry bitch to him. He didn't know why he was so much more talkative and amicable towards Jeonghan than everyone else, but he didn't really care to figure it out right now. No need to open that door on his first day.
"Oh, hush, you love us," Seungcheol grinned, tapping his fingers on his cheeks as he placed his chin in his palms.
The blonde made fake gagging noises before refocusing on his questionnaire, which he could now complete with his own pencil.

"Do you live close to school?" Jeonghan asked Joshua as the dismissal bell rang, signaling the end of the first day of classes.
The brunette hesitated to answer. As mentioned earlier, weird personal shit was where he drew the line. Nonetheless, Jeonghan didn't seem as if he had any weird motives for asking, so he responded, "Yeah, why?"
"We all usually walk home together, since we live close. I figured you could join us," the older beamed.
Great, another group exclusive thing they were attempting to rope him into. Still, the glowing look on his new acquaintance's face didn't leave him much room to say no. "I live on Rocket Street," he stated, mentally facepalming for giving out unnecessary information. One day here and he was already losing his grip on himself.
"Really? I live on Mansae street," Jeonghan said, emitting one of his famous radiant smiles.
Jeonghan's was just one street over from him. He didn't know how to feel about that, so he didn't say anything, instead slinging his backpack over his shoulder and starting his journey out of the school, not caring if the boys were close behind or not.
