The blonde-haired boy collapsed on his bed one afternoon, just after arriving home from school. Another day in paradise—not. You'd think with the bustling life within Seoul, he would find something to fulfill himself, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
The only thing he even partially considered comforting was singing and playing his bass guitar, but he had even faltered from partaking in those. Once again, they were old news, and he didn't have the patience to pick up a new hobby.
He felt his phone buzz a couple of times in his back pocket and pulled it out to see who was texting him. Unsurprisingly, it was Wonwoo, asking if he wanted to hang out with him and Woozi—which means Seungcheol and Chan were already together on their own, or there was just some major coincidence why they couldn't be reached. Was he happy for their obviously blossoming relationship? That's a tough question.
With a deep sigh, he texted the black-haired boy back saying that he couldn't tonight. He didn't bother to come up with an excuse beyond that, and he knew his friends may gripe a bit, but they would get over it much faster than they used to.
It made him feel terrible that he could think of his friends, who had been with him through thick and thin, as a bit tiresome. The very people who used to make him feel so content and loved didn't quite seem to fill the space like they used to. Normally, this realization would've caused someone to hold onto them tighter out of fear of their friendship dying, but Jeonghan did exactly the opposite, loosening his grip little by little to the point where they were beginning to not get offended and question his wellbeing when he turned them down. Sometimes, he just didn't want to hang out—and being the kind and loving people they are, they conformed.
Now, he was attaching to Joshua. The new boy, who he didn't know the slightest thing about other than his the basic info the group has forced out of him over the past little bit. Something about the brunette just made him feel like he held the answers to curing whatever slump he had found himself in. Alas, even if he didn't hold any answers at all, the slightest disruption he has the ability to make in Jeonghan's life made him so very appealing.
Still, it was clear Joshua wasn't very interested in him—or anyone, for that matter. Maybe the younger already had his life together, maybe he was shy, or maybe he was just an asshole—whatever the ailment was, he was distant, and didn't seem as if he had any intention of changing in the near future. Despite all that, Jeonghan had to try. He couldn't continue living as if nothing was even worthwhile anymore. If he did, it was going to become way more detrimental than it already has.
He was proud of himself for convincing Joshua to start walking with him every morning, but that really hadn't created any huge advancements in their relationship. He still did most of the talking, and Joshua still walked facing forward with his lips twitching upwards into the weakest of smiles maybe once or twice each morning.
No, he wanted inside of Joshua's brain. He wanted to know his secrets. He wanted to be able to finish his sentences. He knew that was a bit scary, especially considering the very short span of about two and a half weeks that he had known the boy, but he couldn't control his desires to just be completely obsessed with the new kid. Wonwoo couldn't have been more correct with his observation not long ago that Jeonghan was already fond, but that didn't mean it was in a non-platonic way. At this point, he was grasping at straws to hold onto his sanity, and Joshua just happened to be the one poking out the furthest.
Their relationship was stagnant right now, but he had a pretty decent idea of how to get it moving, while also reassuring his friends in a subtle way that he was still the Jeonghan they love. Of course, he wasn't going to go all-in at once, but this would be a lovely start.

"Guys, do you want to have a sleepover at mine tonight? We haven't had one in a while."
It was Friday, and Jeonghan was smiling brightly at his group of friends, who all (other than Joshua) looked mildly surprised. At this point in their friendship, none of them even had to ask to spend the night with each other, so immediately, they all agreed—once again, save for Joshua.
"Shua?" the blonde boy shifted his attention, accidentally letting the little nickname slip past his teeth.
The brunette boy looked up from his hands that his eyes had previously been trained on, locking gazes with the ethereal male in front of him. "I can't. Sorry," he said swiftly, before refocusing on something other than the gazes of all the boys at the table.
"Aww, c'mon, it'll be fun. You don't even have to spend the night; just come sit around for a bit. I'll even walk you home if you want," the older pouted, eyes glimmering with optimism. He was so desperate to get to know Joshua better, he was willing to do anything to get him to come.
"Please, Jisoo," Chan pleaded with his cute little face.
The others just stared expectingly, all internally hoping their new friend also wanted to become closer with them.
With everyone looking at him like that, Jisoo couldn't say no. With a deep sigh inside his conscience, he let out a slightly exasperated, "Fine."
All the boys cheered, so elevated that quiet little Joshua was going to give them the time of day outside of school. One would think that they've won the lottery with all their whooping and bouncing up and down in their seats.
"Okay, guys, let's not scare him out of coming," Jeonghan chuckled once he himself calmed down from his joyous clapping.
"Sorry, we're just so excited," Wonwoo giggled, finally stilling himself as well.
As he studied the brunette's face for a moment, he could tell there was some hidden emotion about joining them. Of course, he didn't know what that emotion was, but he wanted to so badly.
He knew there was more to Joshua than his boring and mysterious exterior. When a bit of emotion would crack through, it just served as a reminder that this was more than likely only temporary, and maybe one day Joshua would care for and cherish them as they already did for him despite only knowing him for a short period of time.
As everyone resumed to another topic, Joshua stayed zoned out, mulling over something only he knew about. Jeonghan leaned forward slightly, catching the brunette boy's attention as he zeroed his pretty doe eyes in on him.
"What's up?" he asked, referring to Joshua's mental distance, even though it really wasn't anything new.
"I don't know where you live," the younger answered, but Jeonghan wasn't sure whether that was actually what he was thinking about or not.
Nonetheless, he chuckled and stated, "Fifth one on the left."
Jisoo nodded a bit before clearing his throat and turning his head, not so convincingly pretending as if he was listening to what the other boys were conversing about.
Joshua, you are so intriguing.
