Jeonghan groaned as he rolled out of bed, flinching a bit when his feet met the cold floor. He would rather die at this very moment than have to go to school, but he couldn't get that lucky. Classes were just so...repetitive. Even if the content was new, the people were somehow all the same. He hated it.
The only thing he was looking forward to was walking alone with Joshua for a few minutes. It wasn't anything weird, Joshua was just someone new. Someone different in the sea of people he had grown tired of. Even if the younger was literally one of the most boring people he had ever met, he was still a fresh face with a story he hadn't heard. Granted, Joshua may never tell him said story, but that was a thought for another day.
He left his house in no better mood than he was when he woke up. Walking down the same stairs, out of the same house, down the same sidewalk, towards the same school. The only disruption to this routine was Joshua, whose figure he could see standing under the street lamp from quite a distance.
He was honestly a bit surprised Joshua didn't ditch him. That seemed like something he would do without any repercussions.
As he neared the brunette boy, he threw his melancholy feeling away and replaced it with his famous smile. "Good morning," he said brightly, causing Joshua to snap his head up in his direction.
The American boy just hummed, still clearly half asleep. Jeonghan was compelled to just leave the conversation at that and walk in silence, but he was bored, and walking with a silent Joshua was the equivalent of walking with no one at all.
"Did you sleep well?" he asked, glancing over to see the other male's reaction to his words. Thankfully, he didn't seem too pissed that Jeonghan was making small talk so early in the morning.
"I guess," the younger answered simply, but that was obviously a lie. It wasn't that difficult to tell he had covered his dark circles up with a touch of concealer. Despite that, the purplish color still peeked out underneath the makeup.
Jeonghan kept the observation to himself, though. He wouldn't appreciate anyone calling out his undereye circles, so he would have the decency not to do the same.
"You don't seem too excited about your second day," he giggled instead, alluding to the American boy's slightly hunched posture and grumpy countenance.
"You don't say," Joshua mocked, seemingly without thinking, because his eyes widened for a split second, and his head dipped down a bit.
"Ouch, I regret calling you nice yesterday," the blonde said playfully, bringing a hand up to his chest in mock offense.
The younger cleared his throat a bit. "Sorry," he muttered, seemingly without an ounce of sincerity.
"Mhmmm, I bet."
Before any more could be said, the pair heard quick steps behind them. Prior to them assessing what was happening, Seungcheol had jumped on Jeonghan's back, wrapping his legs around the boy's waist.
"What the hell, Seungcheol," said male choked out, startled by the sudden appearance.
The eldest just laughed loudly, hopping off Jeonghan's back when Wonwoo caught up to the group.
If anyone expected Jeonghan to get any peace from Wonwoo after being scared half to death, they were wrong.
"Good morning, cutie," the black-haired boy sing-songed, interlacing his hands with Jeonghan's dainty ones.
"Don't call me that," Jeonghan snapped dramatically, jerking his hand away as if Wonwoo's was the most disgusting thing he had ever come in contact with.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Joshua looking a bit uneasy—perhaps terrified that the boys were going to assault him next.
"Morning, Jisoo," Wonwoo simply greeted, which was a relief.
The brunette boy mumbled back a greeting, hardly sparing the other male a glance.
They talked back and forth, attempting to include Joshua in the conversation as much as the boy would comply with. Soon, Woozi and Chan joined them, and they started their second day together.
☁️☁️☁️
"You seem fond of Jisoo," Wonwoo commented as they walked together towards the cafeteria. "Did you just happen to bump into him this morning, or did you ask for him to walk with you?" he continued, not giving Jeonghan enough time to refute his statement if he had planned to do so.
"I asked, but before you say anything, it's not what you think," the blonde said the last part quickly. He wasn't one to get a crush right off the bat, no matter how appealing the person was. Yes, Josh was gorgeous, but he was also dryer than the Sahara desert after a thirty-year drought. "I'm pretty sure he's straight anyway. Doesn't he give off het vibes?"
The younger shrugged a bit. "A little. He could be bi, though."
Jeonghan didn't respond, as they had reached their table. Seungcheol, Woozi, and Chan were already there, conversing about some random subject.
"But all I'm saying is, theoretically, cereal is a soup—oh, hi guys," Chan grinned from ear to ear as he noticed the other two boys had joined them.
"Please tell me you're not having this conversation again," the blonde boy groaned, recalling them arguing over the same topic while hanging out not long ago.
"We still haven't debunked it, Jeonghan," the youngest tutted. Conveniently, Joshua showed up and sat next to Wonwoo just in time for Chan to pull him into the debate. "Jisoo, is cereal a soup?"
The brunette stared for a moment with wide eyes, clearly not expecting such a question so soon after arriving. "Uh..."
"Don't answer that. No matter what you say, you'll just egg him on," Jeonghan advised.
"Don't tell him what to do," Chan snapped before immediately returning his hopeful gaze to the American boy.
"Sure," he said quietly.
Chan and Seungcheol cheered and high-fived each other, while the remaining three facepalmed. Joshua was left staring at them all questioningly, wondering why such a weird question was the cause for so much emotion.
"You'll get used to it," Jeonghan assured as he noticed how lost Joshua looked while everyone else had their own reactions.
Jisoo just raised his eyebrows momentarily before pulling his phone out of his pocket and scrolling through it.
"Oh, Jisoo! Do you want to be added to our group chat?" Wonwoo inquired.
After a bit of a pause, the older answered, "I guess."
The black-haired boy grinned and handed his phone over. "Great! Give me your number."
Swiftly, Joshua typed his number in, and Wonwoo promptly added him to their chat. He sent a simple 'hello' so everyone could have his number, but they all decided it would be too difficult for him to match all of their separate texts to their names, so they insisted that Jisoo pass his phone around to everyone so he would have all of their numbers.
As he scrolled through them after everyone finished, one name stuck out to him.
Angel.
He looked up and met eyes with the blonde boy across from him, but neither of them said anything.
Jeonghan blushed the tiniest bit as he realized Joshua had noticed what he set his name as, in English. He didn't know what compelled him to do that, but he found himself unable to resist putting his name as something identifying and endearing.
Maybe Wonwoo was right, he was a little fond.
