CHAPTER 5: SORRY—WHAT TOURNAMENT?

'What do you think they're talking about something big happening in Hogwarts?' Ron asked once both of them were back upstairs packing their trunks. Besides The Standard Book of Spells Grade 4, Mrs. Weasley had also got him fresh stacks of parchment, new quills and ink, and his potions store had also been refilled.

'The Triwizard Tournament', Harry said bluntly piling his underwear.

'Sorry—what tournament?' Ron asked.

'It's a tournament where three of the magical schools in Europe—er, Beauxbatons from France and—Durmstrang from the north, I guess, and Hogwarts, participate. There are three chosen champions from each school who compete each other', Harry explained. 'It has three tasks and thus called—as I said the Triwizard Tournament.'

'Merlin's pants!' Ron whispered. 'How do you know about this anyways?'

'Er—' Harry hesitated. In reality he had automatically known what it was during the dinner after they had returned from the World Cup, because of his mind-reading abilities, when the subject of the tournament had come up. And the amount of information Percy had about this, it was like knowing everything about the Triwizard Tournament there is, in less than five second. 'Well, I overheard some wizards talking about that during the World Cup', he lied. 'It just slipped my mind later—with the Dark Mark and stuff.'

'Wicked!' whispered Ron. 'Do you think one of us can participate in the Tournament?'

'I don't think so, Ron', Harry said. 'They've changed the rules allowing only those who are of age to participate.'

'That's dumb!' Ron protested.

'I don't think so Ron', Harry said. 'The First Task has something to do with facing dragons, so imagine what the other tasks are going to be like.' It was something which he had known from Charlie. Charlie had said that he would be returing from Romania's dragon reserves after sometime, and Harry immediately knew his involvement with bringing three dragons to Hogwarts for the Tournament.

'Dragons?' Ron whispered. 'But they must be mental to—' but Ron was interrupted as at that precise moment Mrs. Weasley entered their room with freshly laundered school robes of Harry's. Ron, thankfully, understood that he must shut his mouth for the time being.

'Now pack them properly so that they don't crease', Mrs. Weasley said.

Harry accepted his robes from Mrs. Weasley and was about to put them when Ron exclaimed, 'Mum—what is this?' Ron took out a maroon coloured velvet dress with cuffs and laces. It was a bit mouldy near the shoulders.

'They are dress robes, Ron', she said.

'It's Ginny's—the way it looks like—'

'Of course they aren't—they are yours' Mrs. Weasley said. 'Your Dad has one too, you know, for smart parties and all.'

'I'm not wearing those!'

'But your school list says that you have to bring dress robes', Mrs. Weasley said. 'Harry's got one too.'

'Er—' he rummaged through his school supplies and took his out. It wasn't that bad in Harry's opinion, although he preferred wearing a tuxedo. It was like his Hogwarts robes but bottle green in colour and thankfully it didn't have any laces and cuffings and was decent enough. 'I thought the colour would look good with your eyes', she added.

'Er—thanks Mrs. Weasley', Harry said.

'But they are good enough', Ron said. 'No laces or cuffs—why couldn't you get me one of those?'
