Hummel Residence, The Next Morning
"I'll be right back," Elliott told Sam as he parked the car and began to leave towards Kurt's house.

"Hell no, I'm coming with you," Sam opened the car door from the passengers seat. "I hate being in the car alone," he mumbled as he followed the boy to the front door.

"Fine," Elliott rolled his eyes. "Keep your mouth shut though," he rang the doorbell and then stood back with his hands in his pockets.

A man with a baseball cap opened the door and scanned the two boys with his eyes.

"Hey Burt." Elliott said nonchalantly. "Long time, no see."

"Dog!" Sam pointed at the german shepherd that appeared beside Burt at the door. Elliott, who stood behind the blond boy, whispered sorry to the man in the doorway as he sighed to let them inside.

"Please tell me that's not your boyfriend," Burt asked Elliott in a hushed manner.

The boy grimaced at the thought. "Oh God no, I found him all alone in an alley and took him under my wing," he responded.

"Good, good," Burt patted the Elliott's back and went over to look up the stairs. "Kurt, Elliott's here," he yelled.

"I'll go talk to him," Elliott said as he made his way up the stairs. "Oh, and happy new year, Burt," he shouted from the second floor.

"Happy new year, kid." Burt shook his head and smiled. His attention then turned to the blond boy who was still standing in front of the doorway to the house, his hands clasped in front of him as the dog made circled around the boy's feet.

"It's okay, you can pet the dog," Burt rolled his eyes. Sam gave out a triumphant yelp and bent down to ruffle the dog's ears.

"So, you come around here often?" Sam glanced at Burt in an attempt to make conversation.

"Kid, I live here." Burt blinked.

"Right." The boy cleared his throat and focused on the dog.

Meanwhile, Elliott allowed himself in to Kurt's room, where he found his best friend in a confused state.

"Why are you here?" Kurt asked warily as he sat on the edge of his bed.

"What, I can't swing by to say hi to my best bro?" Elliott asked.

"Elliott, we go to the same school, you could see me there," Kurt squinted.

"Yeah, but I haven't been here in weeks," he plopped himself onto Kurt's bed and smiled. "What's new with you, pal? Got any messages lately?"

"No..." Kurt hesitated.

"You're a filthy liar." Elliott stood up from the bed and pointed to Kurt. "You left someone on read on Twitter."

Kurt's face scrunched. "How did you-"

"Why haven't you responded?" Elliott interrupted and put his hands on his hips. "What, are you like, dating the hairgel Warbler?"

"I'd rather not talk about that," Kurt rubbed his arms.

Elliott sucked his teeth. "Yikes. Didn't work out?"

"Let's just say he's not interested," Kurt forced a smile.

"Which is all the more reason why you should get back to that message you got," Elliott raised his eyebrows. "Dust yourself off. Get yourself up on your feet. I'm not saying you need a man, but you should at least consider not leaving the guy hanging,"

"What's in it for you?" Kurt furrowed his eyebrows. "Why are you so hellbent on me responding?"

"Because I've seen how you've been these past few months, Kurt. You're doing an amazing job of being our captain, but when are you going to start taking time for yourself?"

Kurt rolled his eyes. "I've already tried that. Look where it got me," he sighed.

"Yeah, but this time, there's a person out there who wants to get to know you and possibly be with you,"

Kurt paused. "I don't know, Elliott,"

"Okay, I told Sebastian that I'll be seeing him at the Lima Bean after school," Kurt breathed out

"Okay, I told Sebastian that I'll be seeing him at the Lima Bean after school," Kurt breathed out.

"I'm proud of you," Elliott patted his best friend on the shoulder.

Kurt shook his slowly and smiled. "You know, I kinda missed our 'boy' talks," he sat back. "Remember Adam?"

Elliott hung his head back and scoffed. "Don't even remind me. I really thought he was the one," he facepalmed. "Can't believe I was so stupid,"

Kurt remembered why Elliott and Adam didn't work out. Adam had used Elliott to get closer to Kurt, and when Elliott found out, he was devastated. "Sorry for stealing your thunder," Kurt apologized.

"Eh, I don't blame you, you're too hot," Elliott softly punched him in the shoulder.

"What can I say? It's all in the 'boy next door' charm," Kurt chuckled.

"See? If this thing doesn't work with Sebastian," Elliott smiled. "Who says you two can't be friends? I mean, look at us, we're exes, and now we're bros for life,"

Kurt nodded his head once. "You do have a point," he admitted.

"Of course I do," Elliott slapped his knees and headed for the door. "Okay, I'm gonna be late to drop off Culkin at McKinley," he looked back at Kurt. "You want a ride to school?"

"Sure, let me get my bag."
