"Once you accept your own death, all of a sudden you're free to live. You no longer care about your reputation. You no longer care except so far as your life can be used tactically to promote a cause you believe in." -Saul Alinsky.
"Hey..." She said.
"Hey." Issac was looking at me as I spoke. In fact they all were. Trying to see if I was okay.
If maybe Cecilia Rose was a villain.
She wasn't.
"Do you want to sit?" I asked her. And I have to give Sam, Isaac and Cole credit because they didn't audibly gasp. But I had known them for more than seven years, I could see it in their faces.
Confusion and shock.
"Yes, sure." She dropped her bag on the floor and drew a chair and sat next to me.
"Oh this is Isaac, Sam and Cole. Isaac's my brother." I pointed as I named them and told her.
"Fey you know you are all ours siblings." Cole said.
"Of course I do Cole, you all annoy me like one." Cole looked at me like I had actually hurt his feelings and mock punched me in the shoulder.
It was moments like this that made me almost think I was normal.
Almost.
"We know you love us." Sam said.
"Oh by the way this is Cecilia Rose, she is a new student." I said as I told them.
Cecilia waved as she took out her lunch, her blue dreadlocks sitting on her shoulder.
"So, Festus, are you free today too, after school?" She asked.
"Ohh...umm." I didn't know what to say, I couldn't go today. I just couldn't. But I didn't want to hurt her feelings.
"She can't today, mom and dad wanted to talk to her." Isaac said, saving me.
He had seen me yesterday, all broken and fragile. He knew why I couldn't go, besides Mom and Dad would have gotten a message that I had fainted, and had a panic attack as the nurse put it.
"Maybe tomorrow?" I offered as I looked at Cecilia's slightly crestfallen face.
It was like she was looking forward to spend time with me. What a joke. How could anybody want to spend time with me?
"SO Cecilia, what extras are you taking, the school has a lot of great ones." Cole asked.
