Ash's POV:
The same old day in Bangalore, rush on roads, heavy traffic, busy people on their way to the office but not for me, a 14-year-old teenager whose holiday started two days before. No worries, I am just in a different world, far away from the hustle-bustle of the city. I am in my peaceful dream world, being friends with my ideal Selena Gomez.
She was just asking me to move in with her, until my mom came and opened the curtains, allowing the sunlight to seep into my room.
Preventing Selena (we were on a first-name basis now) from completing her sentence as I rubbed my eyes open. "Ashwini" came a voice from my bedside, "Ashwini get up it's 10 o'clock already"
"Five more minutes mom", I answered back with a groggy voice turning towards the opposite side and pulling the blanket over my face, but my mom yanked the blanket off me, causing me to hiss from the sunlight.
"Get up or else you are not getting any breakfast" I jolted awake in a fraction of a second. "Ouch", mom exclaimed as my head collided with her chin. I smiled sheepishly and mouthed a quick sorry. She shook her head and sighed, "Whatever, but it did the trick", She looked towards me while rubbing her chin, grinning showing her perfect pearl white teeth which are not at all crooked like mine, but now I am happy as I have my braces. Yay!, note the sarcasm. These braces are a whole new trouble for me. So yeah, you must have guessed it.
Food, sleep and art supplies-these 3 are obsessions. I made a quick high pony out of my long brown hair.
"Get up and freshen up and then come to the kitchen.", said mom with her hands on the hips giving all that strict warden vibe. I entered the kitchen, a familiar aroma wafting in my nose. But again I was met with a very weird sight. I saw my mother dancing to a song, her back turned towards me. Wow, just a few minutes ago she was all Claire Dunphy on me and she is Shakira? I sighed and took my seat.
"Oho, what's the occasion?" I said, placing my hair lock, which escaped from me before, behind my ear as I sat on the kitchen island, watching my mother dance to an old song. Now the aroma of food got stronger, I again took a sniff of the aroma and was surprised by its familiarity. "Mom, you didn't"
"OH YES I DID"
"Geez mom, I am here only", I said with my fingers in my ears. "But let it be, you made usal poha for me, right?"
Mom nodded. I was on cloud nine, my eyes lit up. I jumped from the island and hugged my mom tightly and went towards the phone to change the song to 'love you Zindagi.
I started dancing and my mom laughed and joined me in our little dance routine which we use for every song. We fell doing the dip and were laughing on the floor like a bunch of small kids.
I went to the table and saw my plate which my mom would have kept during my little shenanigan.
I noticed my mom taking her office bag and leaving for the door. out of curiosity, "Mom, you said you got a day off, so where are you going?" I said with my mouth full, resulting in some crumbs falling on the island.
"OH YES, but there is an urgent and very important meeting. So I have to go and by the way, I need this all cleaned." She said pointing towards the table. I smiled goofing showing her my braces and started eating with my mouth open to irritate her and she made a disgusted face in return. Mission accomplished.
"Where's dad?" I said while eating the poha.
"OH he went to the hospital, there was some emergency case. So how's usal?"
"It's great, mom. Where did you learn it from?"
"Well from our last visit, I saw you hogging the usal which your sweet Nani made, so I thought let's learn how to cook it"
